I have some new decking that I'n very excited about:oops:

Questions:

Is it safe to put a BBQ on there?
We're having the bottom of the back wall painted white but leaving the brickwork above, as is. Opinions?
What else to do there?

Yes.
White looks old and dirty quickly. I'd go light blue, though that's off the top of my head.
Hot Tub.

Hot tub? Not surefancy, esp. if you as a visitor do!

A gate to keep the cage fighters from falling out onto the lawn?

Some quick serious thoughts - get some 6' high wicker/bamboo screens to cover the left and right hand fences which would cover the misaligned fence panels.

Put some troughs on the inside with some upright plants (18"-2ft) to help break up the harshness of the ballustrade - possibly on the outside too.

A few colourful pots of varying sizes with feature plants (Bamboo/tree fern?) perhaps in the back corners.

Oh yeah and would be a good idea to stain the decking - unless it's hardwood which it doesn't look like (cheapskate!).

Maybe some rattan furniture but would possibly only look right if decking stained a dark brown.

Hope that helps for now - I'll keep having a think.

Cheers Drew. The old Irish chap who's doing it at labour plus costs choose all the materials - I just wanted it done for this summer and only started sorting the garden a t all a few weeks ago.

Should have asked your advice in the first place, but it can always change for next summer8) (It'll be like an Ibiza bar - every season a new look!)

No need to explain your choice of second rate materials. Only joking softwood is absolutely fine and much easier to stain/restain. I've had both my terraces done with hardwood which was a huge ££££ and an absolute nightmare to do (by the specialists) - because it's rare to find wood dead straight at the lengths I needed, each one had to be pulled bit by bit until they lined up with the next one parallel. What should have took 2 days took 2 weeks.

To add to that, I decided to treat the decking with some clear 'hardwood stain' and after finishing the first terrace realised it wasn't clear (as described) and has took away the really nice natural look it had AND rainwater just sits on it now. So lesson learned there, just need to find time to sand it down to remove it :spank:

Like Drew says, get some decent stain on it once the decking seasons a bit, makes a huge difference.

I did my previous back garden wall in light blue too ( was quite balearic ).

Chap is staining it today - christ knows what with! More pics when done....

Duck-egg blue always looks nice and soothing in the garden. Best as a bench colour with natural stone or compatible paving than against stained wood tho' ..

Main thing is to get out and enjoy the 'space' - and that the rain stays off .. the tarting up's a bonus but a few plants will make all the difference. Red, White & Blue themed planters maybe ?

If you want gas just save yourself the expense. Buy a real BBQ and then cook your food on the grill or oven and serve outside from the un-used BBQ. It will taste exactly the same.
Can't beat a proper BBQ smell and taste. I went to tesco to get some nappies for the baby last week and came back with a new BBQ plus coal etc(remembered the nappies), made for a great evening

A barbie is defo charcoal
Non of this gas malarky!!

Terracotta Or nice stone colour paint on lower wall might look nice with the red brick
And yes plenty of nice plants

The hot tub :) oh yes sounds great

Saw the updated pic on FB, looking good!

The only thing it now really needs is a group of friends, music and some beer!

(Oh and probably a chair or two:lol:)
