Supermarket Foods

Remember that Tesco is named after a blokes wife who was called Tess who opened a company. A genuine world class company who employ lots of people.

Ok it was incredibly succesfull. But who knows, maybe that local butcher will be a small chain one day, then a large chain, then....a competitor of tesco.

I hope this does not descend into random spanking of the big chains. They are wrong and a force for the not good in a number of areas, farmer etc margins being a major example, however its lazy to do as some & just attack them like a sith lord.

I've witnessed first hand how Tesco's operate, so I'm afraid my view of them is very negative. In my home city they acquired years ago a large lot of land significant to a major regeneration programme which would benefit the city as a whole. They were refused planning permission for a huge Tesco extra because it stood in the way of the regeneration and would have an adverse effect of the generations old local business in the city centre.

Despite being offered an alternative profitable site close by, they refused as they felt that the original site would produce the maximum profit available. They favour maximising their profits regardless of the affect on the local community. The regeneration programme has been on hold for years now as they wrangle it out.

This is fair enough, as profitablility is what business is about, but in that case let's see them for what they are, and what their motives are.

On the other hand, smaller more traditional businesses need to step up and raise their game. I like my local butcher, but he shuts at lunchtime on a saturday. I agree they need to open longer hours to retain their market presence, or specialise more to provide something different.

what were you doing there in the first place??

:lol::lol: I didn't go there thinking it was going to be my career for the next 20 years  I was 18 and on holiday from university and the chicken factory always took people on and the money was lots better than most places in Scunny - I hadn't actually thought thru what the job would entail :?:spank:
