I want to go back, river cruises with r'n'b as the highlight in music is not quite the same, especially when my manager who was supposed to be sorting the alternative to drinks tells me where to go

interesting article about our amigos the cuban brothers:

"GIVE me half an hour with my Grandmother and I'll teach her to beat-match,” says original Cuban Brother Mike Peat.

"When DJs were coming over from the States charging £5000 for an hour-long set, that was when I started thinking the fun needed to be put back."

And so the Cuban Brothers were born.

For the uninitiated, the Cuban Brothers' lunatic hybrid of DJing, comedy and breakdancing revolves around three central characters: head-honcho Miguel Mantovani ("singer, dancer, writer, DJ and all-round nice guy"), dancer Archerio Mantovani ("the man behind the legendary grooves and moves") and finally DJ Clemente ("the campest man in Havana").

Starting as a one-man show on a Tuesday night in a jazz bar in Edinburgh, the last decade has seen the Cuban phenomenon take over Ibiza, MTV and, soon, the silver screen. :o

"The film's in pre-production now; it's being looked after by the same guys who did Human Traffic, so we're really looking forward to it," Mike explains.

Stupidity

Before that though, we have the MTV show to look forward to in early 2005 - a full series of stupidity and music, as Mike explains: "It's exciting for us as it's studio based, we have interviews and so on, then it cuts into sketches featuring different characters. I can safely say that TV hasn't ever seen anything like this before." Bold words indeed. :P

It's really the live shows, however, where the Cubans come alive. Expect semi-naked breakdancing, sub-standard chat-up techniques, a plethora of funk-fuelled jams and general handlebar moustached nonsense all round.

"We never really have anything specific planned, but our live show basically combines music, comedy and dance rolled into one.

”The idea of the Cuban Brothers is just to put the fun back into clubbing, getting people laughing and smiling... with the added bonus of potential nudity."

With an ethos like that, world domination is surely just round the corner.
