Morillo worth seeing?

Hey,

I am Heading out to Ibiza for the 2nd time between 10th-15th September. We are already heading to Cream@Amnesia and wondering where to go on the Wednesday. Thinking of either Toolroom at Space or Subliminal at Pacha. I am swaying towards Space but to people who have been to both, which is the better night?

Cheers

Used to love Subliminal at Pacha, best night on the Island about 10 years ago. Not a huge fan now of Morillos sound since he went down the more commercial route.

would have to agree with the two posts above. Went to see him in 2001 and 2002 when I was first going to Ibiza and even bought one of the CDs that I still have a listen to on the ipod every now and again, but not a big fan these days. If you have not been to pacha before it is still worth going it will still be a good night.

I have never been to toolroom nights at Space so can't comment though liking the slightly techier sound that MK is playing these days. IT would depend of the guests that are playing both nights that would help me choose

if you saw any of his performance on the channel 4 houseparty you wouldnt be rushing to see another erick morillo set

cheeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeee.

cheers guys. I did see that performance. Didn't fancy it too much but thought it was just something more commercial he put on for tv? There's no massive guests for either night that would swing it. I do love the toolroom sound now and again but would love to say I have been to pacha. Decisions decisions

Morillo is definitely commercial but I actually quite enjoyed myself when I went, music included! He manages to make commercial house quite enjoyable and avoided the hits they're all playing, at least the time I went.

BUT

Here is the wednesday I would have:

New Order at Ibiza Rocks, then Viva Warriors Closing party at Sankeys.

I can understand if you don't like New Order (just) but don't miss out on this SAnkeys party, it will be heaps of fun for sure.

I've always enjoyed a visit to Subliminal at Pacha but after this years visit very recently I probably wouldn't rush back. We still enjoyed ourselves but the music was nothing to shout home about, the other thing was the ever expanding size of the VIP areas and shrinking size of the regular areas, made for a very busy club outwith the VIP areas.

that is what my plans are New Order then back across to Sankeys for sure.

Just seen them at Hyde Park a few weeks ago along with the specials and blur even though the sound was terrible the music was quality.

I've seen Morillo in Pacha twice in 2002 and in 2007 and he was playing awful commercial crap. I have seen him play other gigs before and kill it in between then. Something about Pacha maybe I'm not sure?

saw him last year in Pacha with Danny Tenaglia and the party was off the rockers! yeah he'll drop a commercial track here and there but by no means was his set all commercial... that was last year though :?

the energy in Pacha was awesome... worth a look i think!

I saw him on a interesting night.. it was a showcase night... subliminal label, which I figured is his.. vs people of the night. AN21 and steve something..two trance guys.. they were not my taste of music and he played very out of the range of music that I am used to seeing him play.
He started playing ok, then switched to really big style , big hits of trance..then towards the end of hi set he played really good house anthems... like I am used to seeing him play about 7 years ago. Just a very good selection of mix between big house tunes and good soulful grooves.

overall, decent night.

I gathered the policy of this night is different than the night of the other regular nights...as it is usually just him playing..not VS anyone else like Dirty Dutch.. etc. Therefore I got to see something a bit different than a spotlighted Morillo.

I would rate him a solid 3/5 on the night I saw him.
I can't generalize but on this particular night in July I saw him... the resident dj's killed it! They were really good , relentless and really showcased that they have very good talent in terms of mixing and tune selection. Although it was really early to get the crowd going for a night in Ibiza. Morillo I am sure will be good. In comparisson to the other night I visited while in the island I believe I was more pleased with the Enter. night (richie hawtin).
But I went with an open mind, once I was going to the club I was ready for everything...I mean I got ready and went to the club just thinking that he might be total cheese and noise and the crowd was going to be pushy rude all jacked up in sh*t ...but it was I was completly surprised. The music ranged from good to ok and the crowd was good for the most part, although I do believe that he is throwing down more commercial sounding stuff than usual, even for Ibiza standards. Not a bad night, although I would think you could probably see him do better and perform much better.

Furthemore, there are other things I would change of this particular night but that is just personal... like after a while that bell that kept going *woohooooooooo* like it is a siren or something... that was overkill!... but overall pacha was worth the trip. Just my take on the matter. I hope you have a blast! Especially if you are going to see him alone without any big anthem trancey stuff.....I am not sure but the blend of anthemic trance with soulful underground house is just not a good mixture. At least on this paritcular night.

That would be the Danny Tenaglia Midas Touch

I remember once upon a time in Sydney , Morillo played a 9 hour set back when he was on the tribal dirty kick !!

Kinda miss the tribal banging Morillo.
