I went to Stink for Dinky/Voigt/Chloe and it was dead til about 3:00 and then there was about 150 people...but Dinky was wicked and everybody was having a great time.
If you are not a money-machine, you can´t make it in Ibiza. Damian Lazarus and Michael Mayer’s experiment to bring their London Stink parties to Ibiza has failed with the night closing three weeks into the summer season.
Lineups at Stink included the best of European minimal house such as Michael Mayer, Ivan Smagghe, Roman Flugel, Jennifer Cardini and Dominik Eulberg. But the nights didn’t succeed where it counts, in the pocketbook of the club owners, and management have decided to cut their losses by pulling the plug on the rest of the season.
Spokesmen from Kompakt and Crosstown Rebels express disappointment at the decision to close the residency, which was to run Friday Nights at DC-10 until September 8th.
Successful residencies on Ibiza are notoriously difficult to pull off with competition being tough and profit-driven club management being unforgiving if the numbers don’t arrive through the doors. Previously, DC-10 opened only Monday mornings for Circo Loco and Wednesday nights for Timo Maas’ residency, and the experiment to expand to three nights a week hasn’t paid off with both punters and management expressing disappointment at the low turnouts.
“Stink apologises to those who have made plans to come party with us during the rest of the summer in Ibiza,” Kompakt told RA. “However, Stink will be back at its real home at the T-Bar in London on October 9th. See you all then!”
It's a shame because everyone I know who went said the music was top notch. There's not much time to build a sucess with clubs here, profit must be instant it seems. Perhaps they should have gone the NDSM route of free parties at small venues to prove how good they were and then made the transition to a club?
you have to remember a lot of tourists on the island like me are trying to bag clubs as well as clubnights.
ie. pick space on sunday
dc10/amnesia on monday
privilege on wednesday
amnesia/pacha on thursday
privilege on friday
or something along those lines. exactly the same thing happened with viva! last year. they had some of the best lineups (imho) of the whole calendar last summer yet failed to pull in the punters cause they were up against cream/deep dish and also the fact that most people will save space for a sunday cause of the reputation. im not saying that clubs are any better when all the tourists are there, my mates been banging on about mn2s at el divino recently havin a crackin atmosphere and their lineups have looked excellent from a straight up house point of view. i keep asking about penatra cause i wanna know what like it is as the closing party is scheduled for the week im back and id like an excuse to avoid defected and get a wee visit into el divino cause i love the place.
