Steve Aoki DJ Rider Unveiled

For my 2 cent, I would like to add that as somebody who has dealt with artist & DJ riders (although, granted nobody as big as the aforementioned) they are rarely compiled by the artist/DJ themself - they are usual knocked-up by the tour manager. And in many cases they try to out-do each other in terms of ridiculousness.

In many cases the DJ will turn up and not want or use 75% of the "demands".

Calvin Harris - who had a particularly reasonable rider by most standards - a few hand towels (although he specified they had to be black!), a bottle of vodka, half a dozen red bulls & 12 bottles of water, plus hot food - he drank less than a 1/4 of the vodka, only had a few red bulls & waters and actually told us not to bother with any food if it was on his rider when he arrived.

He did take one of the towels home though

bang on correct

I wish I got a rider for ever day I go to work. The best I can aim for is a coffee from the free coffee machine and a slice of cake if it's somebody's birthday.

Makes me want to vom.

Call me old fashioned but I go out dancing to escape from all this hierarchical VIP b0llox.

...but many of these riders, whilst well thought out, aren't 'that' demanding.

Compare it to a lot of divas that even dictate the type of wallpapering that should be in their dressing rooms.

I think if you ask any dj the most important thing to them will be the technical specifications being met . Most dj's are busy people and dont actually have lots of time to hang out 'backstage' if there even is an area for them.
Its things like festivals i think where the more outrageous demands could be met. Also I think nightclubs in the U.S are more equipped with 'backstage' areas etc

Although not on the same level...

When we booked Howard Marks to do a show in the bar I once owned, he slept in the room above the pub and and the bar manager took him for breakfast at the local greasy spoon.

Mr Nice indeed.

(And Bobby Gillespie turned up to see him on the night)

We also had Miles Kane and his band play and they only asked for some sandwiches and beer - but i think they were secretly horrified at the squalor of the aforementioned rooms above the bar. hehehehehe:lol:

He's crowd surfed on mattress and all sorts.
What happens if the crowd take him too far from the decks, and he misses the cue point for his next track?

Yea he crowd surfs with the boat, this year at Ultra a girl climbed into his boat before he could stage dive and she was sitting up in the boat surfing around for a good 2 minutes and he had to wait till the next track to dive in hahaha

Strangely enough, the more obscure things more more sense; underwear, socks, mouthwash, shower gel, makes sense for somebody travelling only with carry on luggage to several destinations at once.

The rest (finest label Vodka, Bugatti Veyron is preferable etc...) is just laughable greed. Somewhat justified but still. **** going through all that hassle.

Haha! This reminded me: we used to have a lot of "celeb" PAs where i worked - the usual suspects - Gaffney, the TOWIE lot, Big Brother contestants - that kind of tripe.

Anyway, they would always demand Grey Goose or Belvedere on their rider, so I used to get my bar staff to save empty bottles, so when these wannabes arrived i would have their s****y vodka waiting on ice... only it was always just Chekov vodka poured into the bottle!!!

Guess what, they never noticed the difference! Strange that!

so you switched the Wessels!:lol:

Until this leak i thought it was all myth.

That you could say ok, a bucket of beer and some food.

Does this come out of the fee for the DJ or is it all provided by the promoter and on top of it?

It seems to be provided by the promoter on top of the fee.
