You beat me to it mate. You get my text y'day?
It was my first closing, but by far the best of my many trips to Space. The DJ Mag stage was absolute quality, I was there on and off from 12.15 til about 5.30, and it was superb. Got some really good pics of you Stu, and of Dan Tait, Sarah, Smokin Jo, Digweed and the rest.
I actually spent the least time of all on the terrace I ever have. This was due to the DJ Mag terrace, and spending 2 hours in the Discoteka seeing Dan's 2nd set on DVJ-Xs, which was absolutely fantastic. 8)
Tom Novy and the residents were great, but Morillo was a real letdown. He never failed to really grasp the crowd, and when this happened, he stubbornly refused to do anything else but his tried and tested "play a tune, loop it for ages, f8ck around with the eqs and filters, lob an accapella on (often on its own) for a bit, then repeat ad infinitum". Having seen him 5 times this year, it was the only time he's been less than 10/10, but you'd have thought he'd have the humilty to at least try and mix a few records and get the crowd going, but of course the ego got in the way. He barely played any of the 'big' tunes of the summer (bar Alter Ego) because of course that would be way too 'uncool'. He must've mixed no more than 2 or 3 records in the last hour. Pathetic.
That aside, THe DJ Mag stage was still rocking til 2, then Coxy belted the cr4p out of the Discoteka, but I finally gave up about 4.30am from severe fatigue.
DC10, musically, was the best night I've ever been to in Ibiza. Inside was mangled, discordant and head-altering techno and tech-house, which was a little to scary for me, but the outdoor arena in the car park was the finest selection of electro, acid house and everything in between I've ever heard. It made housetrack, which was dropped a few hours into it, seem ordinary by comparison.
Absolutely incredible.
I think its a given I'll be back there next year.
