Space Closing

So how was it Stu ? As good as last year ? I want details

Personally, I thought it was a lot better than last year, but it's always a wicked day out.

I thought DC10 the day after was even better.

You beat me to it mate. You get my text y'day?

It was my first closing, but by far the best of my many trips to Space. The DJ Mag stage was absolute quality, I was there on and off from 12.15 til about 5.30, and it was superb. Got some really good pics of you Stu, and of Dan Tait, Sarah, Smokin Jo, Digweed and the rest. :)

I actually spent the least time of all on the terrace I ever have. This was due to the DJ Mag terrace, and spending 2 hours in the Discoteka seeing Dan's 2nd set on DVJ-Xs, which was absolutely fantastic. 8)

Tom Novy and the residents were great, but Morillo was a real letdown. He never failed to really grasp the crowd, and when this happened, he stubbornly refused to do anything else but his tried and tested "play a tune, loop it for ages, f8ck around with the eqs and filters, lob an accapella on (often on its own) for a bit, then repeat ad infinitum". Having seen him 5 times this year, it was the only time he's been less than 10/10, but you'd have thought he'd have the humilty to at least try and mix a few records and get the crowd going, but of course the ego got in the way. He barely played any of the 'big' tunes of the summer (bar Alter Ego) because of course that would be way too 'uncool'. He must've mixed no more than 2 or 3 records in the last hour. Pathetic.

That aside, THe DJ Mag stage was still rocking til 2, then Coxy belted the cr4p out of the Discoteka, but I finally gave up about 4.30am from severe fatigue.

DC10, musically, was the best night I've ever been to in Ibiza. Inside was mangled, discordant and head-altering techno and tech-house, which was a little to scary for me, but the outdoor arena in the car park was the finest selection of electro, acid house and everything in between I've ever heard. It made housetrack, which was dropped a few hours into it, seem ordinary by comparison.

Absolutely incredible.

I think its a given I'll be back there next year. :D

don't think I did get a text yesterday mate?

Drop me an email anyway. stu@djstuarthirst.com

If you've got any good ones of me playing, i'd love to get hold of them.....

Agreed about Eric Morillo... he was poor I thought.

I seem to have a much better time in the morning/early afternoon than in the evening at Space, it might be because i'm tired.

I'd say I had the best time when Stu played and when Smokin Jo came on straight afterwards.. Guess it's also because there's less people round.

I tried to get the wife to throw her knickers at ya but she was having none of it... Something to do with not wearing any.. Sigh.....

Anyway, good set, Stu, and to be honest, the DJ Mag Arena was the best place to be again, especially for the late afternoon. And everyone else must have thought the same coz it was the ram-dest I've ever seen it. Stu : great. Smokin' Jo : bitchin'. Dullweed : Dull. Sr. Cox : Majestic. But can they please do something about levelling out the carpark floor - at one point I had one foot in a pothole that must've made it look like I was dancing half way up the side of Everest.

Best set of the day (in my severly low-opinion) was DJ "Sin Plomo Super 98 Octane" on the terrace. I thought the violinist was going to make the whole affair uber-tacky, but it really worked. And it really got the crowd worked up nicely for the afternoon - until Tom Novy came along that is.. And 2nd prize must go to one of the DJs in the "Discoteca" who put on some bangin' super thud-thud-thud dark tech-house at about 5pm. I was fading fast and that really got me juices flowing again.. Hats of to the unknown DJ for saving my Space Closing!!

Worst set of the day was definitely Dullweed. Definitely not the man he used to be. I like the way that Carl Cox name-checked him at the end of Dullweed's set just to wake the crowd up coz they were just nodding off. Christ, halfway through his set there was a cue for the massage chairs longer than outside at the entrance!!

And I agree with previous comments on Morillo. Played loads of noises but nothing coherent. And it scared a lot of folks off... It was the first time that I could remember having space to dance on the terrace at 10:30pm on closing night.

And I got to DC10 on Monday but don't remember too much - apart from not even having enough space to collapse in a befuddled state coz the terrace was too rammed. Apologies to anyone who had to put up with a drunken old fart wittering on in indecypherable English and Spanish. Sorry for the bruises...

P.S. Best part of the weekend was definitelly chatting to Andy, the sound engineer from DC10 (what's an old long-haired hard-rock roadie doing twiddling knobs in the mecca of club bunnies?) in PurePacha, when along comes Danny Tenaglia and sits down for a chat as well. I think I may have said the "I'm not worthy" line enough times to be considered a right prat by all present. Or maybe kissing his feet was just going a bit too far.....

:D

My DC10 cd survived the club and an after party, I was quite impressed !
How I got them into my jean pocket in the first place is another matter.. !!

No probs mate, catch you on email.

nasty dirty sexy?

Anyone of you was at Nastydirtysexymusic monday night after DC10? I was there until 5pm but I had to go home cause I was to tired from the all closing weekend (Subliminal Closing, DJAward,Matinee, Space Closing, DC10). Just wonder how it ended, seems to be a great party, Danny T dancing with Cox and Degweed!

Space was too crowdy in my opinion, and yes Morillo schould think of changing a little bit his "looping" attitude!

Ciao
