SANKEY SOAP’S TRIBAL SESSIONS are one of the new promotions heading to Somny, with Dave Vincent of the Manchester-based party planning ten parties at the Playa D’en Bossa venue. Somny launched last summer with a décor and attitude in a large section of the tackily commercial Kiss discotheque. Somny’s outdoor roof terrace proved to be initially troublesome, though the fact that the club has existed for decades ensures that the stylishly cut venue should suffer none of the stressful fears of closure that other emerging island clubs have had to endure in recent times – nearby Pin Up springs to mind.
THE TRIBAL SESSIONS night is scheduled for Wednesdays, with Nic Fanciulli and Greg Vickers the resident DJ’s. Tribal held a hastily arranged one-off at the venue at the end of last summer, following Dave Vincent’s arrival for Space Closing, but instead happening upon Somny for the first time. In just four days Dave organised a ‘10th Anniversary’ event for Tribal lasting 12 hours, complete with his regular DJ team. He explained to me on that night that “this venue is perfect for our crowd - the size, the feel, the attitude… We’ll fill a niche, stir up the island, bring something new. And you’ll see it promoted the ‘Dave Vincent Way’”.
