Solar Eclipse in 2026

I know we are planning our 2025 visits, however thinking of potentially coming for the total eclipse.

What are thoughts on this event? I imagine the island being 10x as more crowded and expensive…

there aren't enough beds anywhere for the island to be 10x more crowded. also, since it's on 12th august, it hits peak season when the island is full to the brim anyway.

but yes, it will certainly be very busy. as for expensive, has august ever been cheap here?

We had a partial (39 %) eclipse just after noon on Saturday. Of course it was overcast when it happened. Other parts of the country were luckier.

What time of day is the Ibiza 2026 one? Anyone know?

Just before sunset. had a look and anyone staying on the east side of Ibiza might miss it due to the hills, so decent planning is in order! If I can book early and afford it, La Savina on Formentera should do the job with about a minute's totality. However more inclined to stay (if there's room) in or around Madrid and take the train a few miles to the east for totality. Madrid is right on the edge.

TBH the northern coast of Mallorca looks the perfect spot!!

Not to be a party pooper, but when they are at midday that are obviously more "OMG Amazing" as it goes completely dark in the middle of the day.

Of course, this will still be amazing, but it is not a peak of the day Solar Eclipse.

Not sure, but would you get the red sunset sky around the eclipse, then back to daylight again? Will be fascinating to see.

Ibiza is just not the same any more. I'm old enough to remember the peak of the day eclipses, none of these modern sunset eclipses that they have now. Everyone will just have their phones out instead of enjoying the moment! 😄
August 2026 Eclipse...Sponsored by.... 🤬

Had to make a new account as I forgot my old details, been here on and off since about 2003, so hello again!

Just been looking into this, insanity.

Firstly, I caught wind of this in 2017 when looking up the next total eclipse visible from the UK after the massive US one that year. Found out about the Aug 12th 2026 one which is 95%ish cover in the UK, but looking at the little animation on Wikipedia my jaw hit the floor.

To make clear, a total solar eclipse at sunset in a populated area is so rare no photographs exist of one. So this is a HUGE event.

But I excitedly told people about this, work in the industry so was hoping to drum up interest in an event on the wasteland in San An. Nothing. A mild shrug was the most I got.

So I assumed no one cared, until this evening.

Just looked up hotels for that week, thinking "it's nearly a year away, best book soon" and my jaw hit the floor even harder. A f***ing HOSTEL in San An is charging fourty three f***ing thousand euros for four nights that week. A hostel that is normally one of the cheapest places in San An.

Link HERE if you don't believe me. Even places on the "wrong" side of the island are charging stupid money.

And that's if you can find anywhere. A lot of other places already fully booked up.

Word to the wise though - if you're a regular/semi-regular at a major hotel in San An or the Bay, email them and ask. Some are marking themselves as fully booked on their websites to stop scalpers. If you can show you previously stayed with them, they're accepting bookings.

I've waited nearly a decade for this one. Can't wait.

Still no idea if any promoter is quietly planning anything for it.

This is definitely a system error, the week after is the same price

I've used booking.com and from time to time - nothing to do with eclipses, Oasis concersts etc (!) a property has been marked in the thousands..for one night. Dunno why it keeps happening, if it's closed just say so, but 99.9% of the time I'm sure it's a glitch.

As for viewing the eclipse, probably best for me is to fly to Reus and find a hotel near the airport if there's a flight and room cheap enough - obvs it's on the mainland so should be enough accommodation available. Another option is Barcelona - outside the zone, but the trains will be heaving with peeps trying to get to the eclipse zone; would imagine not being able to board!

Think if anyone tries the north of Spain then there's more chance of heavy cloud.
