the other day, i was surprised/astounded/angered by this comment about "the road to socialism". you'll see the response below. at the time it didn't quite click with me.

then the more i thought about it, i suddenly realised, americans have been so conditioned thru the cold war that socialism or anything resembling elements of 'communism', (remember that, the empty idelogical threat for so many years), to the extent that something like this could happen.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Switzerland has a college of 7 federal counselors in the central government.
2 of them are from the socialist party.
Lausanne has a mayor from the green party (ecologists) and the majority of the city cousel is socialist.

Forgot to say, there is no death penalty, compared to the us, iran, saudi arabia...

8 years of W made people more fearful.

the bit about sweden totally shocked me.

sweden has one of the most well balanced, happy, progressive countries in the world.

on things like child poverty, literacy rates, health, etc, etc......sweden is a leader.

sadly says a lot about US attitudes.

Hey grego, you know I agree with you about this. (as mentioned in an earlier post):)

Even though Canada has a conservative retard robot for a prime minister, who is considered very right wing ( well by me anyway!! :lol:) , if it were in the states he would fit more in line with the Democrats.:lol:

As i mentioned in a post, and i think you did to, i find it funny when people associate Socialism with something bad... and even funnier that the Democrats are a socialist party.

My parents had something to do with it, always talking about me having 'good socialist values'

The comments i'm seeing on some news sites, those who are upset that Obama won, saying things like "We are headed for a pre-USSR nation'

However, when i was in sweden back in September it was horrible to see all the people walking around wich chains and schackles around their ankles

check it out

....it was all puffed up to give the yankees a common focus & purpose (hating russia) in the absence of religion (how f ucking wrong did that assumption turn out to be) & the advent of wide spread individualism & moral relativity brought about during the 60's.

this was all morally justifiable as it prevented the collapse of society.

So says Dr Strauss & he taught the neo cons at uni, they took his ideas a stage further and bigged up al qaeda as same said public enemy no 1. all justifiable.

oh and at the same time, some people in the east were getting a bit stroppy about...the advent of wide spread individualism & moral relativity brought about by...the influence of westernn culture.

you may be aware this lead to some trouble recently.

i made that all up myself :p

then some bloke did a documentary on it, nicking all my ideas :spank:

worth a watch, very interesting if probably exagerated somewhat (but i dunno)

You know sth else about Sweden: The swedish socialist party is the richest party in the world... Very interesting...

Well, about "socialism" - it is always the questin how each country and each of us defines it. It is not necessarily a very clear distincted expression. In each country, creation, the history and the being of socialist movements and socialist parties has led to a certain tradition. Not to forget the party-system itself plays a role as well...

There is a socialistic party in the states, but it has never been strong. This has several reasons which lay a little bit back in the past: The civil war gave birth to the democrats and the republicans. The civil war is the fundament of all or most of the american cleavages. During the european industrial revolution, socialistic movements evolved because of miserable standards for the working people. The States didn't have at all similar problems... It was a growing and young country... With the first world war, Russia became the first time a serious opponent of the USA. Commnists at that time were persecuted as they were seen as opponents of the system. This was continuing until the end of the second world war. Afterwards, yes, there came up the cold war and even stiffened that American opinion of socialism and communism.

Nowadays, the social party still has no chance, but as well as the reps as the dems have both social elements in their party-guidelines...

But, if we talk about social system, it has not at all the same tradition as many european states... it was in the states for a long time seen as not an issue of the state but the issue of everyone else because of the traditional strong liberalism...

So, what now? How can a social system be established in the States? How can it become the issue of the country?

Where are the reasons for scandinavian countries to have the best social systems in the world?
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

...sorry guys, my fingers and my head were going through and enjoying to revive memories from what I once had to learn long time ago...
