That is a good idea, and depending on the decorations and arrangements (along with the music) it can be a fun experience. We have a similar thing; a "cruise" that departs from Newport Beach a few miles into the Pacific. It is quite a lot of fun
. It is at night time over here, which is fine, but I would prefer day time as it gets a bit nippy at night.
I think in your case, the weather might be the biggest "drawback". It is hard to predict (in a place like UK) that you will have clear, warm skies on a particular weekend a month or two in advance. Another thing you might have to consider is to have yourself well covered against liabilities, such as some moron getting drunk and falling into the cold river, and then suing you for having inadequate protection. Just a thought.

We'll be fine LBCA - I've done one before - weather can be a bit dull for summer but not dangerous. Insurance won't be a problem - we just hire a disco boat whicdh is covered for such affairs on the owner's insurance.
Erm....hypothetically speaking....of course........

Just set a date, just because some ppl are at festivals etc doesnt mean everyone else is.

Barbie's got a point. Our night was down on normal numbers when we promoted at Turnmills last August, as it clashed with Creamfields, people on holiday etc etc.
