Snowboarding

What level boarder are you? And how much do you want to spend?
(mind you, I can only comment on 4 resorts)

everyone at www.snowheads.com are very helpfull.

 One thing I will say is choose accomodation wisely (proximity to piste). There's nothing worse than being out all day and having to walk a mile home with all your gear!

have you come into some money??

:?

I have never been boarding before, I am going to go to Milton Keynes several times before I go on my trip.

Agree with Mark Sun there is some Great snowboarding in Japan.. and if you are there at the beginning of February for the 'yuki matsuri' the snow festival... you get to see one of the neatest festivals in Japan IMO

or you could come over to where i live, You can often get cheap flights to Calgary, with packages to the Rocky Mountains, and resorts like Sunshine, Lake Louise are nearby Fernie in BC is s quite good, Big White can be good too

or you could fly to Vancouver and go to Whistler which is nice too

I have only ever been snowboarding in Canada and Japan..

near Calgary
http://www.skibanff.com/ (includes sunshine lake louise and norquay)

Near Jasper
(Edmonton is closer city but I think its better to go to Banff area... more touristy but more choice of resorts)

I'm going to Whistler in 2008... can't wait!!! (mind you its gonna take till 2008 to pay for it!)

Whistler is great... there is quite a big resort there , so plenty to do after hours.. mainly pubs though

It is quite expensive, but thats like any resort... I know that the same restuarant in my city is about 30$ cheaper... but lots of overseas visitors think its cheap!

oh yeah and if you are at any ski resort in Canada, you can play a game called 'try-to-find-a-NON-Aussie-who -works-here'

OK last thing I have to say on the Skiing / Boarding debate...

Skiing

More control = Faster Speeds = More Adreniline.

Sirens, I only have limited knowledge of European Resorts but if I had to suggest one, I would suggest Alpes d'huez for its green and blue runs. I am a bit of a Francophile (and before anyone pipes up that doesn't mean I go trawling the net for french people).

Seriously, go to the www.snowheads.com forum... and they will be in a much better position to advise you.

I ent skiing first, like everyone else... then thought I wanted to be cool, so I tried snowboarding... I'm still not that cool, but I like to think I am... he he!

I may go back to the ski life, but am planning on buying new board and boots this year so probably not this year

I found in Japan, there were about 2 people on skiis... now THERE'S a place where they care about image.. I remember seeinga load of people with the best gear I've ever seen sitting on the side of the hill..

I've never been skiing in Europe, would like to check it out one day

I started skiing at age 3, my parents meet in a ski ressort.
I would like to learn snowboarding, but I'm too lazy to spend a whole season with my bum in the ground so I stick with my two skies

Sirens, in Europe I would say anything in the french alps (the swiss ones are very expensive). In Spain we have few good ressorts but the snow it's not granted as it is in the als ;)

For Europe, my favourite resort is Val d'Isere/Tigne in France, closely followed by Laax in Switzerland. They seem to have the best apres ski activities and terrain for snowboarders, and most accomodation is within walking distance of the lifts :) The Rider's Palace in Laax has a nightclub in the hotel and 24hr bar!

Chamonix can also be amazing if the snow's good, but you need to drive to the snow (as it's actually a number of resorts).

Off to Val Thoren in January :D

Likewise, i've not been skiing "acoss the pond" yet. But from what i've heared you lot have got it a bit better than us.

I wouldn't spend a fortune coming over here for snow when you've got the best on your doorstep!

yeah... I can't say anything about Europe.. but I know when we bitch about it being a bad season, many Europeans still think its great!

i need to take advantage of having the mountains so close to me!...get out more this year
