As a first timer on the slopes.... Is it really vital to wear body armour?

Get wrist guards and a helmet, the rest is nice but IMO not necessary.. (I wear a bum pad though )

Helmets are very clever for snowboarders, your brains will thank you - I'd say the majority of us wear them now (at least that was the case in Val Thorens this year), plus they keep your head toastie warm.

I just bought a helmet.. i didn't use to wear one but then I had some bad wipeouts i decided to.

i don't know what its like where you go boarding.. but here I'd say the majority of people on the hill wear one...

mine is pretty and silver as well!

a helmet is a good thing for sure

if you'd decide to ride the snowparks, then upgrade to a backguard which is more important than wristguards IMO.

I wear a helmet and wristguards (the wristguards are a must for a beginner). Any other body armour is unnecessary IMO unless you are going into the park...
