I rented a license-free boat (rib) with Portinatx Charter yesterday. They told me I could go as far as I wanted (except for being able to get back to Portinatx in time).
It was so much better than my first sea boating experience (in Mallorca), where I managed to kill off the engine right at the exit of the Palma harbor and couldn't restart it because I had forgotten to set the transmission back to neutral (had to phone the owner for help). All this with a car ferry about to leave the harbor looming behind me
I talked with the owner about the license requirement for the next year. He told me it was not a sure thing yet (apparently, there are appeals/resistance, as it would kill a whole branch of the tourism industry). We'll only know for sure at the end of the year.
Nevertheless, I think it's time for me to finally get the license (mainly for jet ski rentals). I rode jet skis in closed circuits a few times (in PdB and in the Canaries), loved it every time.
