Anyone here suffer or suffered from snoring problems and have you found any useful remedies?

I know alcohol intake and nasal congestion are major factors but is there anything around that can actually help to alleviate the problem.

It's for a friend of mine

Smoking ahem, adult ciggarettes shall we say, kicks me right off. i have just had a nose op though to correct a deviation from a rugger injury which i am told) helped alot.

My father in law actually has to wear breathing equiptment to bed his snoring is so bad.
:?
He is a Doctor too and has tried everything. Think you may be stuck with it mate.

sew a bobbin into the back of your pyjamas!!

seriously, sleeping on yr back makes the problem much much worse.
anything which can keep you on your side or front during the night (such as above) really does help.

Cheers Russ, but I do sleep on my side always. It's been considerably more noticeable the past couple of weeks and i'm blaming the flu I picked up xmas eve. Not sure how long i'll get away with that excuse though :D

I've always had problems with snoring as I breathe mainly through my mouth due to a deviated septum and narrow turbinates (the passages up each side of your hooter)

Going in for my 3rd operation in 3 wks time..

Seriously though, ask your gp to check if you have soft tissue swelling in the nasal cavity. If you breathemainly through your nose it could be worth checking.

(The joy of a bupa policy!)

It could just be time, old man ;)

I started snoring regularly in '06. I assume age has something to do with it.

Alcohol is a major factor. Even my usual couple of beers in the evening is enough to get it started. The booze relaxes some muscle or other that makes snoring more likely.

Not sleeping on your back and clearing out the nasal passages before bed helps somewhat... but not completely.
