Correct-a-mundo Drew...........I used to smoke 20 a day for years, I went cold turkey in 1992 and took up running to help. Since then I've been running for Derwentside Athletic Club, I've done 9 Great North Runs (2 of which were under an hour and a half

, best time 1hr 28m 45secs and was in the first 1500 out of 40,000

, the others were just over an hour and a half). I still hold the club record for the most races ran in a twelve month period. Was around 1997 and I ran 54 races from 1st Jan to 31st Dec. In 1998 I was part of a relay team that ran the Coast to Coast route (for charity), a distance of 140 miles, in under 18 hours. In 1999 I was also part of a team of 10 runners that did the Three Peaks in Derbyshire, a distance of 28 miles, in under 6 hours.
I still run nearly every day...........well OK, it's more jogging nowadays, but I'm still clocking up 30 miles a week (did 7 miles yesterday). Due to there being a heart condition in my family (and not helped by smoking), my doctor actually stated last summer that giving up smoking and taking up running has probably saved my life!

What more incentive does anyone need than that!
The anti-smoking lobby and the medical profession don't emphasise enough that it's never too late to give up smoking. Your body regenerates over a 5 year period, I'm living proof of that!

..........
.................and I don't want passive smoking of other peoples smoke to undo all the hard work I've done. If other people want to smoke that's fine, it doesn't bother me, I just don't want to breathe it in as well.
