Slightly Nervous...

Been bedroom Djing for about 5 years on and off, played a few records in bars here and there (usually cutting in on my mates' sets when drunk) but tomorrow I'm playing out in a club/bar by myself - sh!t 8O

The owner of the bar tells me has just bought some CDJ1000's. Now, i'm no stranger to CD decks, but never played on the 1000s or 800s come to think of it.

All you regular Djs out there, have you any tips on the decks and just playing out in general.

I'd like to say I don't get phased very easily, so a missed beat here or there won't be enough to make me run home crying, but you know...just thought i'd ask!

Thanks.

Just have fun mate, sounds like a good set up . You don't have anything to worry about. If you drop a clanger of a mix then keep your head up and get on with it. Couple of pints will do the trick if you are still nervous.

The 1000's are easy to use. First time I used them was at a bar too. Are you able to go in early and familiarise yourself with them before you play? Have a search on youtube, I'm sure there will be video reviews of them.

Wee tip, with the Master Tempo on, you can make fine adjustments while the two tunes are in without the "wobbly" sound you sometimes hear.

If you wanna cheat, get a program called Mixed In Key, it'll help you avoid horrific clangers, or just go with the flow... up to you.

I have this program and I think it is anything but cheating !! Excellent program which will improve any Dj. Can't recommend it enough.

pioneer cdj's are a piece of p!sh. you'll pick it up in 10 mins.

get down early and make sure your comfortable with the sound & equipment set up.

get a rough plan records wise

get a few beers in ye

rip it up

Yeah its the monitoring / soundsystem that will be the main difference , getting used to the speaker delay and getting the monitor at a comfortable level are the things that threw me abit the first few times

I often regret never getting into a bit of hobby mixing. Since way back many m8's have had decks, sold them to another m8, who sold on to another m8 etc etc. At the time (when I was young enough) I was more interested in getting on down than being on the decks.

These days it sounds like a brilliant excuse to splash out on high tech gadgetry into the bargain.

I recently bought myself a BCD3000, which I connect up to my laptop. Fantastic fun, and it's coming to Ibiza with me next year for round the pool at the villa.

Glad we arent sharing the villa now - listening to your racket all bloody day and night....:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I didn't say whose villa

And any racket will beat listening to your inane chatter at 8am.

I think you'll find my "chatter" at 8.00am is usually about something quite constructive - like offering to you a little something to perk you up a bit - :spank:

Not like you and your chatter.... something along the lines of....

Ginge: "you know who I quite fancy, although she is a bit chavvy....... Lily Savage!"

Silence for about 3 minutes from all of us thinking 8O8O8O

Ginge "......... ah I meant Lily Allen!!"

Still cracks me up when I think of that morning/afternoon :lol::lol::lol:
