Silly Question

no it's just a bigger double bed! 6' wide

and queen size is even bigger than that, 7' wide i think.

A king size bed i think is about six inches wider, than a double bed, and a queen six=ze is bigger than a king size

I think it is refering to the style of room. King is probably the best room, Queen next, then it probably goes down to the Butlers room, lol

From The Guardian.....

Can anyone explain the variety of beds available in America?
M Dunn

· Twin - two single beds; Double - double bed, equivalent of an English double bed; Queen - slightly larger (longer) double bed; King - even larger (wider - can be two twin beds pushed together or the same size).
Most American motel rooms have two double beds standard and the charge is for the room, not per person. For an additional charge, usually a "rollaway" bed (sort of like a camp bed, but with a thicker mattress) can be requested; this would be the set-up a family of five (like my own when I was growing up there) would use. There are also three-quarter beds (slightly wider than a standard single but not as wide as a double) and extra-long single beds (the norm in halls of residences), as well as single beds that are slightly narrower than standard, but a traveller probably wouldn't encounter these sizes.
Kari Pearson

· Confusingly, what the Americans call king size we call super king, and their queen size is our king size. Their double is the same as ours, but you won't find too many of them. A twin is two 3' 6" single beds.

Thanks Scoobie,

That makes lot of sense. Actually I think in Spain queen is smaller than king so probably the ones who are (one more time) confusing things are the brits 8O ;)

So what do you call a bed thats 4'6" (ish) wide - half way between a single and a full double?

I always thought that was a Queen.

Im certain that King is the largest standard size.

in UK Queen is def the biggest!

Stuie,

In this case I think is understable cos you have QUeen and no King but you tend to complicate simple things like size of beds, measurement and don't forget driving sense ;)

UK

Single - 3 foot
Large Single - 4 foot
Double - 4 foot 6 inches
King 5 foot
Super king 6 foot

We dont have Queen in the UK other than in some hotels that are using he name because americans will understand it.

(recent buyer of bed after looking at very many!)

In Canada, it goes twin, double, queen then king. A hotel room with a queen bed is pretty sizeable-u could prob fit 3 people in comfortably  A room w/ a King bed is for sure going to be much larger. Usually you'll get rooms with 2 double beds in a lot of hotels...

(sorry to butt in, but I thought I might impart my limited wisdom ;) )
