interesting McRackin mate.

But - im sticking by my guns here. They dont care about the clubbers 'that much'.

An excuse they used for the price of alcohol was that it would keep violence down. mm. ok, but why are they charging way over the odds prices for water then? Water doesn't make people aggressive. We need it -esp in the heat!

and also to keep away certain people!!

the same happens for example in las salinas with the price of the sunbeds and the prices in the restaurants. there was a comic on the newspaper the other day in which these two fat old ladies were complaining about the price of the sunbeds and the answer of the young boy was simple: we put this price to keep people like you away from here. it sounds like a joke but this is how it works..........

do you understand now why the end of las salinas (jockey club, guaraná, etc) is always packed with rich and good looking people?

mm

seems I need to get some serious $. Really wanted to check out the Jockey Club this year but didnt have time :(

What are the people themselves like though McRackin? I have this image of rich people, posing, and not letting themselves go and having a good time. It seems to have that element when really we should all just be in a warehouse raving together to some dirty acid house

You've got this all wrong. The entry prices are stiff enough to keep a lot of the riff-raff out. Drink prices could be lowered without an increase in violence.

Or you could do it like they do in Moscow. The hottest, coolest clubs have "face control"... the hotter the club, the stricter the doorman. The riff-raff does not get in. Sometimes I hate the system (specifically, when I get rejected or have to suffer the indignity of waiting for the guy to let me in!) but it works.

I think they used to do the same in New York but it meant the difference between getting in quickly or standing in a long line. Of course, I'm not sure how this'd work when a club holds thousands of people :)

God they used to do that at the Mud Club in London years and years ago... you would stand in the Q and Philip Sallon (the then owner) would come out of the club walk the Q and say "you can come in" "my god you are too ugly for my club - f**k off" "you can come in" it was degrading and embarassing (but scarily exciting) wondering if you would get in or not.....(for the record I got turned away once!!)

Ibiza Voice: Some Ibiza clubs socially gate-keep to exclude undesirables, but are maybe too expensive and elitist as a consequence; how do you see this matter?
Pete Tong: “Well, market conditions should decide the fate of all the clubs, if they are too expensive people won’t come.”
