Selfies do not maketh the man...

I have a fb friend who's been in ibiza since openings , just got back. He has 3 albums and going strong...

I cant help but think he validates his holiday / experience by getting all these selfies with a mate behind circo loco dj booth or amnesia opening etc. even if thats a part of the night getting photos it seems more "look at whats happening" rather than Is Whats Happening

when i look back it just looks like someone desparate to show they having a good time ,whilst having the real good time is a contender, which is nuts in my book.

does that make sense to anyone else? I dont doubt my mate had a ball I just wonder if you have to shout to the world how much fun you had then is that real fun?

And mob like mentality does not maketh it universally correct just a value shared . I love ibiza and sun and girls and music. That is just a general statement.

i think we share same sentiment , my point was that this dude has spent so much time taking photos to 'show' hes having good time , i wish he just did it without having to prove to anyone else

edit - i must add theres just endless photos of djs in clubs which leads me to believe he is a serial offender of just pointing phone at dj all night. He's a cool bloke but he does feel the need to validate himself by spending loads and getting 'those' photo's all night.

We work together sometimes and he always has a funny story to tell but think his credit cards will catch up with him soon!

Am I one of the few that doesn't take their phone out with them at all? Especially on holiday it stays in the suitcase at all times and only gets used in the airport.

Selfies, finishing a sentence with an upward inflection and kissing people* you have hardly met before on greeting them are all modern diseases.

(*man to woman, woman to woman generally)

I like to remember things the way I remember them, which isn't necessarily the way they happened.

I'm really bad for not taking pics these days, but I guess just about everything has been photographed before.

I guess the wider point is that people are taking less 'real' photos and alot more selfies. its a strange phenonomen

"finishing a sentence with an upward inflection" very annoying this one, unless your Australian, there is no need for it!

MiniMarc I think we have the same FB freind lol as my feed is full of selfies and untold amounts of photos of the openings from one particular person! Like who needs to see 20 photos of the laser at Amnesia!?

You can't take a photo of the moment while being in the moment. And a photo never fully conveys what it was like to have been there anyway.

I think selfies are fake and not what a photo should be about. I am guilty of recording a few moments each night as I like to look back the next day, I don't pose or anything though as I think picutres should be taken spur of the moment, thats when you get pictures of people really happy, not just pretending to be

You know how I feel about photos and selfies in particular ! Heck, I won't even let anyone else take a pic of me lol. It's nice to have some outdoor photos in lovely places sometimes, to remember good times during those rainy days back home. But I reckon all cameras and phones should be banned in clubs.

:spank:

Not as bad as an erroneous apostrophe!

Hey. Teacher. Leave those kids alone !!!! :spank:

I am so immersed in the experience, I never consider taking a picture. I find it a drag when someone says, "hey lets take a picture." Most of the time that person is spectating rather than participating. Too many attention whores these days. And if you are recording in the club instead of dancing, you should shoot yourself. Your camera is shitty and of low quality. Let the club promoters do the advertising. Sorry, rant over.

Meh whatever floats your boat.

I wish I had more pictures of me enjoying Ibiza. They bring back the memories like nothing else.

If you don't want to bug someone else to take your picture, take a selfie.
