Sasha, Fat Boy Slim and Carl Cox - Manchester 7/7/07

Plus Laurent Garnier wow if id have known about this earlier id have gone over for this, looks as if it'll be a fantastic weekend.

Well...yes but no but yes but no.

(BTW Nish, you know Nick & Tom doncha;)8))

In manchester we all got initially excitied as of course, the line up is beyond belief really. But according to my sources they have not sold many tickets at all. Two main reasons, its forty quid - which compared to the line up is not so bad but it is steep for what is ultimately a bosh some thrills and dance event, but more importantly they have held it when the main clubbing population of the city (the students) have all fooked off.

however that said, its the kind of venue where they can just move the partitions/stages about at will dependant upon numbers so they should be able to create atmosphere no matter what. Very different event, but i went to see morrisey (no slating me pls!) at the gmex and its an awesome venue.:)

if it's empty, get down the front and into your own little world and voila...........

you going gareth??

yeah your right - if there are not many there they will just move the stage forward a bit so you dont notice. re attendance alas mate no, in blackpool on friday night (well not blackpool per se, poulton, at a mates) & then pre booked for the sat night at a birthday in the infamous Shangri La on Victoria St, Liverpool!

What a night!

Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim, back to back!

Wasn't full but enough people there for a atmosphere!

I am suffering today though, this was my Ibiza warm up night, god damn i am gonna need counselling when I get back I think!

Que? Why would anyone slate you for seeing Mozzer?

to any sane man, there is no reason - however to most of my pals, and particulalrly those close to the dance scene, my twin loves of moz/smiths & radiohead always put me open to a 'gaz and his suicide music' charge.

so call it getting my defence in first! judging from your posts & previous mancunian residence I am guessing i preach to the already converted.

good to hear it was good!:)

how did the line up pan out? few mates went on friday & they had Erol Alken on at 11, before most got in, then dj shadow playing all sorts of naval gazing stuff (dont get me wrong, he's ace in general) just when it needed to go off at 2 am, and then by the time 2 many djs came on everyone was leavng!

I heard DJ Shadow killed the atmosphere on friday

We got there about 11 and Layo was on, Garnier about 12 and then at 1 it was Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim back to back until 3am, after that my memory is a bit hazey but I didn't leave until 4,30am.

But the big TV screen was mental, not what you need to see when you are 'off your face'!

it went like this

layo 10-11
frankie knuckles 11-12 (played tech house and techno!!8O:D8))
morales 12-1
fatboy 1- 1.30
carl cox 1.30-2.30
cox and fatboy b2b 2.30-3
erol alkan 3-4
sasha 4-5
laurent garnier 5-6

some pics maybe soon

The only decent sets in manchester were david morales and sasha. Fat boy slim is like an embarrassing uncle who jumps about the stage wearing **** clothes and playing crap pop music including his own.
Carl cox was ok but a bit boring and erol alkan didnt get the place going either. He even tried to cheese out by playing sweet dreams - tragic.
At least sasha played some nice tunes before laurent gernier decided at 5am he was going to play a boring 15 minute intro that emptied the hall.

It was really not worth the time and effort. I have to say the screen was awsome and the sound fantatic but considering this is what these guys do for a living I reckon most bedroom djs could give them a run for their money. I reckon my mum could do better than fat boy too!

they had sold less tickets, thats why there was that big dark tunnel when you walked in, which i thought was brilliant, you really thought you were walking out into something and it separated you from the entrance. It was just busy enough for me.

the production on sound and visuals was quite stunning.

fat boy slim is what fat boy slim is. he turns up, mixes badly and thinks 'right here right now' will make it all better. we went VIP when he was on.

I thought Alkan was filthy and brilliant as usual. Yes he played sweet dreams but he was playing to thousands of people, you have to drop something to make the girls sing. (apologies for the implied sexism there but it's true in certain cases)

sasha played sasha by numbers. move on son, move on.

Laurent Garnier was brilliant, seeing the strips of sunlight beaming through the roof as he came on was quite something.

the reason it emptied was because the bar closed at 4, and many non-hardened clubbers had gone in there at 10/11 o'clock to get their moneys worth.

all in, great but we could have done without slim and sasha.
