Santa Gertrudis

I've just spotted a villa I really like in Santa Gertrudis but it's not a part of Ibiza I'm all that familiar with although I've heard great things about it.

What's it like for getting taxis at night? Does the Disco Bus pass through there?

Anyone have any good info on the place?

Thanks!

santa gertrudis is a great little village - plenty of bars, plenty of restaurants, some nice shops, and a lovely atmosphere. it attracts a more mature crowd - arty, bohemian, local people, and needless to say is not on the disco bus route, none of its bars have dj's or loud music, and its residents are all opposed to the la diosa disco down the road!

Stephen, it doesn't bother me that there's no djs in the bars - that's not the only reason I go on holiday!

I was more meaning would I be able to get home at night after a meal in Ibiza Town, as from what I've seen on the website, the standard buses stop at about 7pm and obviously I'd be eating past that.

There's going to be 4 of us so a taxi would make more sense anyway, but if I'm going to be stranded in the middle of nowhere, I'd probably consider somewhere else.

I'm a very mature, bohemian person I'll have you know! ;)

It's actually a nice little town, although very isolated. I've driven through there on the way to San Miquel a few times. It's a good 15 minute drive from Ibiza Town. You are better off hiring a car..........2 taxi trips each day would cost you more than a hire car.

Come on vg, don't apply your aussie geography to us!

15 minutes drive could hardly be described as isolated. I've spent 15 minutes travelling 150 metres in the manchester rush hour in the past. perhaps you were thinking of perth!

a car is a great idea though - you can get where you want when you want - plus if you get lost you'll find some great places you didn't even know were there!

sorry clara for making a sweeping and spurious generalisation - it's just that the general idea i get about the best bars in ibiza (from this site) are that they have a dj, expensive drinks, are only open for 3 or 4 months a year, and have imported a gaggle of transvestites who show up at 4am to give us all something to talk about!

No problem! :D

I much prefer homely bars anyway. I'm a real ale girl myself when at home!

and for real ale fans i recommend can verge on the cala d'hort turn off of the san antonio san jose road. they have a fridge full of alhambra beers!!

Ive eaten in a great restaurant in santa gertrudis. can't for the life of me remember which one though  . Really pretty villiage, busy but not too much. A car will be good idea. The villiage's location is pretty central so you can explore the island quickly. TBH, i'd not rely on busses if i was staying there.

You'd have a pretty chilled time there i reckon. ;)

La Plaça maybe good french restaurant.
Very nice Sta Gertrudis but IMO you need a car if staying there.

I'll second Mackie and Silvia, the best bocadillo's ive had are indeed in Bar Costa.

Just outside (bout 3km) S Gertrudis is Can Caus. great grilled meat fish n veg. nice. cheap too

I prefer pan tomate calors abierto con platas de jamon y queso y una boteilla de vino tinto (spell?) - well Bar Costa always seem to bring what I think I am asking for - less stodgy than bocadillos in my opinion and the jamon was perfecto the week before last - sigh

For Ibiza locals - after many visits to Bar Costa over the years, my impression is that the jamon in May is far superior to high season? - I love open rolls with separate plates of jamon, cherizo and queso and a bottle of the local plonk for a great lunch or dinner

One thing that no one's mentioned about Bar Costa is the decor - it's just a wonderful place to be - the shape of the building - the pictures - the ambience - it's about as far removed from the San An idea of Ibiza as one can get.

It's one of the fond memories of Ibiza that come to mind on a cold North East ( England ) winter day.

that's not fair............

always these mouthwatering close ups of food :!:
let it be rose shaped ice cream, pieces of flao flying right into your mouth...and now this !!!

gosh McR , think of the girls who, like me, started already with a kind of shaping up diet for summer.
