San Antonio Looky Looky Bangles

if you want my advice dont have anything to do with them, they will sell you anything to make a quick buck and yes they can turn nasty if you try to **** with them...... :!:
there are loads of nice market stalls in san antonio so you can buy whatever you need without the risk of being ripped off and plz DONT buy any drugs of them, most of what they sell are duds....
 
i was walking down the road with my gf wearing a rangers top and one of them stopped me and says del boy glasgow rangers fúck the pip instead of pope!

Won't even give them dirty looky looky,(lucky lucky or what ever you want to call them) scrubbers time of day. They are like the bubonic plague=2 b avoided at all costs.
2 years ago 2 women surrounded my friend & took her hand wouldn't let it go & wound some dirty hair into a plait around her finger, they then bullied her into giving them 10 euros.
Still makes me mad to this day, wish I'd been more alert at the time :evil:
 
Usually they are nice to you if you are nice to them. (And now I am talking only about looky-looky MEN.) But if you treat them badly they can be MEAN And if that happens you will find out that there is lots of looky-looky men in San An...

if your ok with them theyr ok with you, if you go to the same one a few times they can be easier to deal with.

From what I experienced last year, its the women that you really need to be alert around, especially down the side streets in the west end area - whatever you do, when they try to shake your hand, do not respond and give them yours, or you will be tied and forced to give them 10+ Euros. I remember before I went last year when I had heard about them, I thought 'yeah but if they tie me then Ill just pull away' - trust me that does not work. There are LOTS of them, and even more lurking in the background. There was another group of lads staying in the same hotel as us last year, and one of them decided to go back to the hotel on his own, got tied, was drunk and so started pulling away and mouthing off, next thing he knew he was surrounded - needless to say, he lost a lot more than 10 Euros and had the bruises to show for it the next day.

The 'looky looky's on the actual front seemed far friendlier to us (as long as you are friendly to them). They are just there dealing their crap, whereas the ones in the back streets are just there to mug.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I told my family about the top quality bangles and soft selling techniques of the street traders. They have all given me some money to get them a bangle. However, what I see is a market opportunity. In Woolies you can get a pack of 20 coloured beads and 10 bits of multicoloured string for £3.00. Now from that I can make 10 bangles and sell them for £3.00 each. This is a 1000% profit. If you are in Ibiza between 1st July 2004- 4th July 2004, I'll be the caucasian with greying ginger hair and freckly arms selling bangles. Please buy off me, let's beat the Africans at there own game! Furthermore, I wont pretend to be your friend or promise you that this bangle will do Stevie Wonders for your sex life. What you are getting from me is a tacky reminder of the perils of mass market tourist resorts. But...at a price that's right!! :D
 
Stay far away from them, and always have something in your hands so that they have no reason to grab for them! I believe it is horse hair that the women tie around your fingers - and that stuff is very coarse and will cut your skin, and they charge you the 10euros+ for the privelige of cutting it out for you!! :x

Can I also say that women should be especially aware of these people, because me and my little sister were fully aware that one of the men was following us through the back streets - fortunately i know my way around, and was pretty sober, but would hate to think what would have happened if my sis had been on her own!!

Then again, men beware, there were a couple of young lads next door to us and one of them had been mugged by the looky lookies!
 
Basically...stick to the front as much as you can. It is VERY easy to get lost in all of the back streets, especially late at night when there arent many other people around and its dark. We tried to find some short cuts in the day time last year and even when its light, as soon as you can no longer see which direction the sea is (many of the streets are very narrow with 3 or 4 storey buildings on each side), you just dont know which way to turn. You can end up really getting disorientated, heading further in land, and no idea which way to go, and I really would not like to experience that at night. But above all else, my advice would be dont walk anywhere on your own (other than places literally right on the front) between midnight and sunrise, not even to source out some nice, cheap, high quality 'looky looky' bangles!!!

As a top Business entrepneur I get a lot of crazy ideas put infront of me, however...... I was blown away by your ingenious idea about buying bangles (for a cheap price) and then selling them (at a more expensive price), infact, there was only one phrase that summed up your thinking 'GOLDUST'.... it's not often that I stumble accross people with people with balls like you, people with the guts to stand up and share their dreams with the rest of us.....

Perhaps you would like a trip down to London to present your bangles idea to my board of directors? I think I may just have found 'the next big thing'....

Very true, i got lost on my own last year walking back to the hotel at about 3am and i was so scared at what might happen. I was so pleased when i found the hotel. I was silly to walk about on my own at that time of the morning really. I got lost because i didnt want to walk through the west end and tried to take the next street along :roll:

Hey they tried to do that to my mate but luckily i knew what they were up too so i dragged her away. another thing i hate is when they grab you by the hair and tell u they can braid it for a 'good price' 'good price' do they not think if i wanted my hair like that i would have done it before now!!!! :evil:

I had hair down to my bum the first year and they were forever trying to do it while i was walking away :roll:
 
Oh yes, they are! 8O It really is a different world out there because the police just done even care if you get mugged or whatever. But you 'should' be fine as long as you stick with other people and keep your hands tucked away so that they cant grab them (my mate got tied even though he was with 4 other mates - there was nothing any of them could do once it was wrapped around his hand other than him hand over 15 Euros). Just completely ignore them and stay out of their way.

There was a section of one particular street last year where the hand tieing thing was going on continuously - it was one of the streets that led from the bay down to the front, quite near to that big record shop where all the big DJs go (we met BK there but I cant remember the shops name!).

Id also recommend on the first day you are there and as its your first year, take a couple of walks into the town, make sure you can remember the way, and then if it seems like a safe route that night, stick to it for the entire holiday, and dont try taking shortcuts! Shortcuts at 5am always end up taking longer 9 times out of 10!
 
In all seriousness, there isn't really anything to worry about with the street vendors/looky looky people. Ibiza is nothing compared to the constant bombardment of tags, chains, braids and watches on offer in Gran Canaria. Just ignore them and you'll be fine. Alternatively, buy one of my pre-holiday bangles from e-bay, wear it on your wrist and that way, when they approach, you can say "I've got one!" Remember it's a tourist resort and the whole point of the place/space is to get money off you. Whether it be the extortion of the street traders or the bars, you're going to get ripped off. So just accept it, learn from it and get beezlered so you don't give a f***!

:idea: Alternatively, walk through The West End constantly coughing, spluttering and sneezing and scratching your genitalia a lot, whilst downing a carton of Spar Red wine. My friend did this last year, "coz he had no money to do anything else after 1 night at El Divino's". Nobody bothered him for the rest of the holiday, not even us lot. :oops:
 
Actually, im pretty sure i read somewhere recently that the main bar streets in San An were gonna have a cctv system put in place - partly to deter these street rats!!

Thats all well and good...if they put in English people to actually monitor the screens!!! Cos if they put Spaniards in they are likely to be as bothered as the Police are at the moment! I wonder how effective they would be anyway - even if something happened how bothered are the Police likely to be to get involved in a fight/mugging, etc of a tourist and sort it out?
