ANOTHER MAJOR LIVE ROCK event this summer is ROGUE INDIE… taking place each Sunday night from June 18th at the re-launched EXTASIS (how handy is THAT for San Antonio, a 1,000 capacity venue right by the EGG that few have experienced over the past decade, when it has mostly remained dark!) Acts like THE DOVES, ZUTONS, THE NOISETTES (NME’s ‘best kept secret’) and UNCLE BUCK are already confirmed, as are THE RAKES, THE SUBWAYS, THE LONG BLONDES and THE YOUNG KNIVES. The promotion actually launched a couple of years ago at the Ibiza-charged BIG REUNION WEEKENDER, where 9,000 mad-for-it party people gather each end of November at the UK’s largest winter music festival (they are putting on two consecutive weekenders at Skegness Butlin’s this year to keep up with demand). ROGUE INDIE have got Sony Gold award winning DJ LUCIO and BBC Radio One favourites COLIN and EDITH on board, while weekly residents are Manchester’s EXILE DJ’s and Bristol based PROPAGANDA DJ’s. This includes DJ DAN, who’s played Oasis’s after-show parties and for the Kaiser Chiefs, Hard Fi and Snow Patrol. TOTP presenter FERNE COTTON will also appear.

The Long Blondes at Rogue Indie
The Long Blondes at Rogue Indie on Sunday 16th July were a fantastic live experience. After having the crowd warmed up for them by weekly resident Arcane and Radio 1´s Vic Galloway, who both played blinding sets of top indie rock hits, The Long Blondes took to the stage at 3.15am. Their stage presence and live delivery marked them out as being the best of the acts who have played thus far at Rogue Indie, with singer Kate prowling around the stage with exceptional feline qualities. New single "Weekend Without Makeup" was a standout track amongst a very strong 30 minute set that showcased exactly why this band are going places. The Noisettes have a hard act to follow when they play on Sunday 23rd July.

The Noisettes @Rogue Indie, Extasis.
With a name like that you might just think they’re a quieter version of noise. You’d be seriously wrong. They are very loud! Singer Shingai Shoniwa (vocals and bass, guitar) takes the songs head on into the thunderous rhythmic guitar of Dan Smith, whilst Jamie Morrison(drums) both looks and sounds, like the Muppet version, although he is more animated! When the music demands it, his body virtually explodes in all directions. The music sounds a bit like Led Zeppelin on speed, with Shingai´s vocals having the power and commitment, to raise the dead. They’re very good ! Myself and the rest of the audience were physically moved and carried along by the combination of rhythm, and energy and volume.
This was the last live band at Rogue Indie this season provided a fitting send off as the Noisettes rocked Extasis on Sunday 23rd July. Following top indie rock DJ sets from weekly resident Arcane and XFM´s Lucio, the band gave a spellbinding 30 minutes. The regulars are going to be divided for some time as to whether they were better than The Long Blondes the week before. The crowd loved every minute.
