Rob wants Ibiza da action
by Victoria Newton
ROBBIE WILLIAMS is heading to the dance capital of the world to launch his new album.
The Rock DJ is set to unleash 1974, his new techno album, on unsuspecting ravers in Ibiza.
I hear Radio 1 want Robbie to be a surprise guest on their week-long broadcast from there that starts on August 6.
A source told me: “They desperately want to get Robbie to launch his new album as a guest on PETE TONG’s show. But it looks like he will be heading out to Ibiza on Saturday 12 instead for the daytime shows with VERNON KAY or COLIN & EDITH. Rudebox — the first single — is out on September 4 so it would be ideal timing.”
If Robbie sticks to his plans, he will follow in the footsteps of P DIDDY.
The blingin’ rapper launched his dance album at the rave nation in 2003.
But Let’s Get Ill made people sick of his new musical direction and after flop sales he soon reverted back to R&B.
Robbie describes 1974 — which he wrote with Stoke-on-Trent pals SOUL MEKANIK aka DANNY SPENCER and KELVIN ANDREWS, as: “A nasty, dirty, bass-infused electro-funk-pop monster.”
He added: “They might say its ‘dance’ or it’s ‘electro’ but it’s just what I like!
“It started off as a busman’s holiday this time around, but it’s become something in which I’ve found myself.”
I just hope Robbie has better luck than P Diddy did in Ibiza.
Genius headline. I'm jealous.
