Robberies

Hi all,

Does anyone know why there seems to be so many robberies/thefts this year?! Every couple of reviews I read seems to include a bad story about "getting their bag swiped" or rooms "broken in to".

I'm flying out on 5th for 2 weeks, just need to know what people's feelings are on this?

I've been 5 times previously and never had any or heard of anything like this. Staying in the Fiesta Palmyra this year.

Thanks.

Hi Paul

I think like many resorts over the summer there is an influx of criminality. These kind of people will spend the summer attempting to take advantage of tourists relaxed state on holiday and the fact they have sometimes substantial amounts of money on their person for a night wining, dining and or clubbing. However these crimes happen in every major city in the world as well as Ibiza and I think all we can do is keep our wits about us, keep an eye out for our friends too and keep all our valuables in the safe deposit. There have been a few reviews which mention crime but they would definitely be in the minority Id say. I was mugged in San An a few years back and had my phone nicked while I was slightly the worse for wear but if Id had it in a different pocket the git wouldnt have spotted it so I learnt that lesson the hard way!

Have a great and safe holiday mate.

The missus told me this week that she'd read somewhere that Spanish tourism authorities had put out an alert about increased resort crime across the country. So it's not an Ibiza problem.

As noted above, just keep your wits about you. Keep valuables out of sight in your hotel room, don't carry around too much cash and be as aware of your surroundings as you can.... as you would anywhere.

I've not had any problems in Ibiza in 6 trips so (fingers crossed) hopefully it's not as widespread as the handful of posts on here might make it seem.

Yes, just keep an eye on things, my friends brother and brother had a bad experience but he is going back next week and he is not worried at all, just keep an eye in your personal belongings and just in case don't have much cash and take credit/debit cards that is what saved my brothers life:lol::lol:;). I have been several times to Ibiza and my brother and friends too and is the first time I ve been related with this kind of experience. So don't worry and have a very very good time in Ibiza.:D:D

just got back this morning. on thursday i think it was, we were walking along the top of the road by cafe mambo in the early hours, a girl across the road from us got her bag swiped from her shoulder by some one riding past on a moped. it was pretty scary really cos it happened so quickly. was bit more careful after that, kept tight hold of my bag

Last year me and my girlfriend were laid on the beach near pizza hut, all of a sudden this foreign guy comes and sits down directly behind us, there was lots of space on the beach so found it stranged and asked what he wanted.

He then keeped saying ohh ohh its so warm, you and your girlfriend go for a swim?

I ignored him and laid back down, the next thing i know he had his foot around our beach bag dragging it towards himself.

I immediately jumped up, ready for what ever was going to happen next. unfortunately at the same time he jumped up backed off, then walked off laughing.

Afterwards i didnt no if i should of reported him, or issued abit of combat on him.

Sorry about the long story, but its just like every other holiday destination, its usualy great, but remember theres also alot of tourist robbers.

I fly tomorrow, to ibiza.
hopefully this time we will not meet the beach thief
