Review: Tidy Weekender - Hard House is Dead?

Hard House was my first real experience of electronic music. Aged like 13 I remember buying the Tidy Boys Annual in Cyberdog and absolutely rinsing it at houseparties etc.

Then my first rave in 2004 (aged 14) at Versus festival in Bournemouth was spent at the Hard House stage and the next 4 years were spent worrying about getting ID'd and going to events like Hard House Academy / Tranzmission at Alexandra Palace.

So yeah I did love Hard House but after discovering House / Techno / Minimal in Ibiza in 2008 I completely drifted away from it and have almost nothing to do with it these days. The same is true for all my mates... I would like to hit up a Hard House rave for old times sake, see the Tidy Boys, Lisa Pin-Up, Proteus, Yoji and so on, but I don't know if it will happen.

Still I hope it experiences a resurgence... Was it ever really all that popular? It always seemed so underground, but I guess between 2004-2006 it was a lot less underground than it is now, as evidenced by the lack of a HH stage at Global + other big festivals...

in my experience hard house and trance is populated by the extremes of electronic music - the really young or the really old.
