Saturday
We arrived at 11 in Ibiza and checked in. Got a txt from Mackie to know if we would still meet up and said yes and got a date with mackie at 16h. So plenty of time to catch the first sunbeams in front of Bora Bora (god that place is emty 8O ). Mackie took us to kanya for some drinks and some small talk about how it is to be an ibiza resident. Mackie is a really nice guy! I was allowed to take on pic of him so ...

Find Mackie

After that Sunday Best! (on saturday  ). After dodging some surveillance guys we arrived at this wonderfull cala while some chillout tunes were blasting from the speakers. We had some free paella and free strongbow and met up with the Dancetrippin crew and with a jumping around James :D

Very romantic place

Party in progess - no entry :D

Pete Tong played a super set of disco and other old stuff and created a super vibe! After that came some dance, rock and other stuff which only added to the vibe. I did some dancing and some twisting ... twisting my ancle that was when i fell from a small terrace  and then came the amzing cuban brothers! They were top entertainment, très funny and oh my god what do they have dancing skills! Fun, great music what more do you need? A grand finale? Yes indeed, the cuban brothers were finishing their act when somebody next to us tripped on a crystal Strongbow lamp filled with water and short-circuited the entire place. What a finale! Couldn't have been better! The best party of the trip! Still feel stupid that i didn't went to Carl Cox afterwards but we were tired and so we decided to check the beds at the hotel.

Sunday
Went to space and met up with Barbie and co, the lovely Beckiboo and fusion. The vibe at Space was very good in the afternoon. Best part was when they looped Strings of life just before the song explodes - from the point you can hear it build up - they played it again and again and when they finally unlooped it, everybody was all over the place and I guess they found the roof back in San Antonio after that came 'So many times' which caused the second explosion in 5 minutes! At 19h we decided to go and get a shower and some food. We left after another peak moment so that was probably the best time to go. We got back at 21h45 and ow my god what did they do to the terrace? It was transformmed to a tiny place with no room to strech an arm and electro blasting from the speakers. The vibe was totally gone, then came Steve Lawler. He was good but nothing special and couldn't bring the vibe back. Sound at the terrace was awfull. The deep tones were good but the high ones were killing my precious ears.
Then on the inside of Space. Next one calling the inside of Space a disco makes me laugh. It is the ugliest dance-thingie I have ever seen. Has been a disappointment before but it still is! No decoration at all and a lightjockey (LJ) that had no clue about what he was doing. The music was pointless. No ups and downs, no vibe nothing. Everybody was looking at the floor, except me I was checking ou the light for you guys :D . Inside of Space, overrated as dance-thingie.

Monday
We went to Ses salinas and stayed at Sa Trinxa and the jockeyclub. It was a very relaxing day at the beach! After that came Somny. Mackie told me that monday night was the best night in the club and to be honest we arrived at 22h30 and at 23h there were some peeps dancing in probably the best looking club on the island. What some paint and lighting can do to a place. I was in KISS before and wow they realllly did a good job. Maybe Space can spend their enegry and money in hiring a descent decorator in stead of trying to close down Bora Bora. The music was pumping and pumping and pumping and i was dancing and dancing and eeuh all over the place. What a vibe and room to dance. There were maybe 70 peeps in that disco but the music absolutely kicked ass! We were kinda sad to leave at 2 but we had guest list for Manumission so we had to use these :D . I wished i had to pay for Manumission because the guestlist queue was huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. We got in at 3 and went straight to the candybar! Great sounds and vibes! At around 5 we checked out the main room which was rammed and so decided to go to the balcony. We had some room to throw some shapes. Was surpised to hear commercial house (last time i went Manu was trance) and heard exactly the same hits as in Space. But in stead of coming down with electro they mixed some old school disco. Then came the shows. Why oh why can't they mix the music of the show with the normal music because it kills the vibe. And the show ended in chaos :D Then came on some other great tunes Promised land and a Nirvana remix and I loved it. After that - bedtime!

Have no idea where this was taken? Mackie can you help me out? :D

Tuesday
We went to cala de s'estanyol. Owke guys, what this trip learned me. Forget about the big discos with the insane entry prizes and the expensive drinks. Free parties are the best. They have a super vibe, no entry prize, a rocky beach :? to wash down the sweat after dancing and you can bring your own drinks. Own drinks, yeah that was actually the single thing i forgot when i packed for the Cocoon afterparty. So had to go up and down the hill to Jesus and then back up and down that same hill again. Don't forget your drinks folks, it took me 1h45 to get back with a cold bottle of water (which was warm when I arrived back at the partyplace). Did some dancing some chatting and listened to the music. What more do you need?

Some dirty dancing

The houses on the way to Jesus. Could you show me some descent piccies of these houses Mackie because they seeemed expensive.

Wednesday
We had some lovely weather while we were there. A little bit to lovely since my partner in crime got a sunstroke and was in bed all day. So i relaxed by the pool and got ready for La Troya. Was in doubt for the whole day La Troya - Morillo but the nagging of some peeps dragged me to La Troya. Sound was very good but then came the second dj who played electro - again, what the hell happened to Ibiza with everyone playing electro - and the party kind of died, lost its vibe. Then came on the shows, again they stop the music play some drama queen opera stuff stop the music again and then start again with the beginning of a record 8O . Then came the PA whick got the vibe back but then they stopped the music again! 8O What the f*ck, it should be stop the music, start the dramaqueen stuff, explode, keep it high (c) for as long as possible and peak again if possible and go down. I think I'm getting to old  At 6 came the first DJ back on and got the vibe back in no time. But by that time i really had enough of the pushy, wet, stinky people and left at 7h30. Now i can understand why James hates the clubbers in the morning. Complete choas outside at the main road :D

Thursday
Partner in crime was still sick so stayed at the hotel drinking cocktails and relaxing and went to the cocktailbar next door in the evening. Had a good time there listening to Greece 2000, Every day of my life, Lady and so on and drinking cocktails on other peeps expenses 8)

Friday
Got up and went to San Miguel. Visited the cathedral, my god it is nice but small. Felt like a disco, with its no-space-to-throw-shapes size  . Guys get out of the taxi in San Miguel and visit the place. Then on the playa. So sad to see it ruined by 2 big hotels. Playa is very nice and relaxing but crowded so we made a little trip and stayed some time at a small cala next to it.

It says bar so it can't be bad

Then on to El Devino (closing party) which was super. The Hed Kandi DJ was super, multiple explosions were heard. 'Our' Andy was super too (think it was him). We had room to dance wow! Very nice and friendly vibe. Stayed till it was time to catch the plane! Very very good night.

Long trip back with the car and then seeing my doggy back  It was nice but the clubs let me down on occasions, but the free parties and the vibe were great! Bring on the next one!

Hot:
+ the weather
+ free parties
+ the vibe

Not hot:
- Bora Bora

- DJ's: heard some terrible mixing La Troya DJ 2, lack of creativity, things like loops and effects were seldom heard, some very predictable mixes.

- The clubs:  in 5 years they will be called museums  Ow my god, these are supposed to be the best clubs of the world. El Devino doesn't even have a descent light-ceiling. None of the clubs have a descent LJ (lightjockey). Closest one was the one at Amnesia who actually tried to build up a night with his lights. But at the end didn't care any more. They were playing Insomnia from Faithless which rocked the place but he actually didn't care ... no CO2 blast no special stuff nothing. This really bugs me because i'm a LJ/VJ and I know that none of them would actually have a LJ job in Belgium. Look the season is over. Why not make a trip to Belgium and see some descent LJ's at work in Kokorico, Versuz, Club Mystique. I'm not a pro but hell I know that I'm better then they are! I know some will say "Wimpers i don't care about the light", well a good LJ and a good DJ create firework. Firework? Have non of the clubs ever heard of indoor firework? Owke Amnesia has it CO2 blast but they use that thing as expensive airco but they need indoor fireworks. Push the button at the right time and bang, the place is to small! It is sad to see that these so called best clubs in the world don't rank top in my list anymore. These clubs don't innovate any more. I was thinking that by now they should have easily have beaten my best club ever: Zillion* (closed in 2001-2002) but they stay in the semi-pro league!

Kokorico_6_low-res.jpg

This is what I was hoping for! Kokorico main room.

Nah the clubs are just not good any more! None of the clubs have a descent lazer. Nah rating are dropping because the clubs don't innovate!

* To name a few special things about Zillion:
* They had a zero-gravity floor: the main dance-floor drops 5 inches at peak moments
* They had a scan wall of about 150 scans. Space has 10 or 12 behind the dj booth and 12 in the room (if i'm correct).
* The rest of the light ceiling could spin 8O same as in Kokorico
* 2 fully automates human robots with firework build in
* drinkable tap-water :D :lol: :lol:

Nice review, sounds like you did your fair share of 'free parties', know what you mean about the lighting in El Divino, it's almost non existent from what i remember!!! :)

From what i remeber ... 4 strobos of not so descent quality, 50 martin spots (my friend uses these as normal light in his living room) most of the disco over here replaced them ages ago but they do have some good moving heads which they use as PAR  and the light do the same routine over and over again  drived me crazy

correct!
we almost gave up on DefMix for Cox @ Lola, but eventually decided we had too much of Cox for 1 month so gave him a miss this time :D

Couldn't disagree with you more on the inside of Space. Absolutely love it there. THey have on the of the best 3-4 sound systems in the world, the lights are the best in any club I've been to and the music (Craig Richards & Tiefschwartz) was fantastic. Top night IMO.

You are taking the p$ss right? Inside Space is a sh$twhole!
The best light? Djeezus you need to get out more!

http://movies.dance4mation.com/kokorico/kokorico1.avi as you can see the whole light construction and artists are spinning around (note the light on the artists)

http://www.movies.dance4mation.com/kokorico/kokorico3.avi
Note the subtle play with the light (blue-purple), not perfectly done! Note the chinese firework!

http://www.dance4mation.com/board/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=16842&forum=29&start=0 Check the movies on this site (they are under the pics) and say again that Space has descent lights

Nice to have some pics mixed in with a great review ;) I think Inside Space has an amazing sound system, but the lighting has room for improvement ;)
