Restaurante Es Pins

A very good restaurant, very cheap and very nice staff... 8)
The food is typical from spain/ibiza:
-Aioli (number 2 on my top ten ibiza aioli)
-Sofrit payes
-Paella (incredibly cheap but good)
-A very good Arroz marinero (fish with rice)
-Huge salad
-Good meal
...etc....
Fresh fish are caught every day, portion are huge and the price are really really cheap (you can eat for 30 euros for 2 (2 starter, 2 principal courses, 2 dessert, a bottle of wine and a bottle of water+aioli)
It's based on the ibiza to san juan road.
When your are coming from san joan to ibiza, you will see the restaurant ca na pepeta on your left, after you will see the restaurant el meson de sa villa (very good recommandation also, made by McRackin and tried this year by me ) and then on your left also, you see the restaurant es pins and is great terasse.

the es pins is an example of one of my golden rules of eating out ibiza style.

if you see hundreds of workmen's vans parked outside a bar in the middle of nowhere then there's got to be something good going on inside!

there's always loads of vans outside the es pins!!

apart from an excellent restaurant es pins is also famous for doing probably the best pà pagès (the local bread) on the island - thats why lots of locals stop there to buy it from them!!

I used to call their bread "the Hierbas Bread" because it taste a little bit like the hierbas ibicencas....
They furnish also their neighbour (el meson de sa vila)...

because they put on the bread batafaluga (could someone with an eivissenc-english / english-eivissenc dictionary translate this one? ) which is the plant from which they make the anis and, as you already know, the hierbas ibicencas has anis!!

You are talking of the yellow flower that grow everywhere on the island, isn't it ? Don't know the name in english, but in french, it's a sort of "Fenouil sauvage"...

today we had that kind of bread with our lunch (bought this morning in the bar of es pins, PACKED with workers having breakfast) and i remembered this theread!!

in english we say fennel ( i thought they said 'funoy' in catalan) and on ibiza there are two types. one which grows on the sea shore which keeps itself close to the ground for protection from the sea breeze, and a tall vivid green version which is quite frondy and grows more inland.
the latter has a really strong aniseed scent and i recall one day when the embankment at the side of the san an - ibiza road was having all the plants trimmed that the scent could be detected from miles away.

ps - juanito's barbecues fantastic chicken and veg and the lamb chops are my dad's favourite.
