Rent deposit?

Hey,

We were requested to pay 600€ rent deposit from one month rent. Also we would need to pay this before we even sign the contract. Besides the deposit we need to pay 600€ from the rent when we arrive. Is this normal? Isn't the deposit quite high for one month's rent? I was thinking more like 100€. Also I think it would be crazy to pay such amount before seeing the owner and signing the contract, dont you think? I guess they want to make sure we really come there.

Anyone has experience with these in Ibiza and suggestion what should we do?

Not a mansion, something very far from it, just 1 bedroom apartment. But most were asking 600€ for a week. Actual mansions costed like 1500€ a week. This one is for 4 weeks. Couldn't find anything cheaper for September.
