Renaissance '08

They moved from Pacha to Privilege half way through the 2000 season and attracted 5000 weekly. Kylie Minouge even did a live set for them:!::?
OK, but is Renaissance still the draw it was 8 years ago?

I think it should be... I'm just not certain.

I agree with morbyd, dont think it's as big as it was. Would probably only get rammed with the likes of Sasha if he plays

But then again I guess many people go to Privilege just for the sake of the club rather than the DJ's

not quite true actually.

that season, it was billed as "renaissance live" and geoff oakes tried to do something different, something that hadn't really been done before.

he'd have a headline "Live" artist with supporting heavyweight jocks.

it was fcuking superb, i saw moby, leftfield, the jaxx, hybrid, moloko, kylie, tilt, all saints.

and the DJ line up was supreme - coxy, digweed, emerson, rampling, deep dish and slam to name a few

in answer to your question morbs, no i don't think it is but it is still a heavyweight nonetheless, a definite fixture in the clubbing establishment.

renaissance has a righteous place in dance music history, but it reached unbelievable heights very early in the scene at the beginning of the 90s. in some ways, it was never going to be able to reach the mythical times of venue 44; events like the 2nd birthday when sasha was carried back into the Dj box by the adoring crowd. but those days are a long time ago, the quintessential dance music album - "Sasha and Digweed The Mix Collection" is nearly 15 years old. and renaissance has had more homes than a gypo.

nonetheless, it has held massively successful residencies at the cross, pacha, in japan and singapore. it is a regular feature at festivals and its record label releases ooze sophistication.

the new residency at MOS is exicting for geoff i feel, oh and the fact that sasha has been back onside for a while now, after his acromonious departure from renaissance, is a massive boost!

by the way - i quite like renaissance, if you hadn't noticed!!8)

You just recapped what I said using a lot more words

Renaissance is great! I totally agree! Place in music history fully recognized!

But maybe not the draw it once was in Ibiza. I'm going on scant evidence (one night in late June in each of the last couple of years...certainly not a conclusive sample) but it wasn't filling up Pacha like other nights that same week.

So, back to this Privilege thing... unless they really pack the line-up each week, I don't see it :?

I think with a bigger venue tho the line ups would be huge. Theyv got the power to put on the massive line ups... Likes of Sasha, Diggers an so on

Names like that could fill Priv surely.

also bear in mind that when they held it at privi, as they did in 2001 also, the whole area behind the swimming pool was closed off as this was the stage/performance area.

having said all that, renaissance's ibicenco home is pacha. the brands fit like a glove.

the only sticking point these days i think is that renaissance is/has been a massive clubbing brand, much like pacha. so naturally, there is a bit of a conflict.

pacha would rather pay david guetta his fee, let him call the night what he likes and they take the door proceeds rather than have to do a deal with renaissance about who gets what percentage. i'd imagine renaissance could do without the aggro too.

renaissance has always been a bit of a trend setter IMO, a pioneer for different ways of doing things, even if some haven't always worked. so maybe its time for them to break some more ground.

I don't think that's how it's set up with Guetta... I remember reading some interview with either him or is wife and there was talk about how they were helping to coordinate the VIP section and all that. I don't think they'd go through the trouble if they weren't getting some percentages...

Oh, and agreed - I like Renaissance in Pacha. It does fit (and nice to have a night there that's not funky house)

i remember the interview, but cathy guetta just did a bit of glorified face picking for the VIP on FMIF nights. anyway, what coordination does the VIP need anyway. it's pacha, it (was) friday night.......hardly any trouble there sport.

so for guetta he's happy to take away his £xxxk or whatever it is he gets to play every week, knowing that he's onto a nice little earner and the FMIF brand is going up.

same as with roger sanchez and tongy at pure pacha.

It still happened didnt it? Moving from Pacha to Priv mid season. I bet you wouldnt mind a taste of them glory days again instead of the tired prog **** they churn out these days- Satoshie Tomiee, Danny Howells etc

the reason i like it @ Pacha is because the nights arent crammed full of people, the people that are there are there for the music and not because its the new fad in the dance scene.

every time ive been there for renaissance its been the best night ive had on the island.

its intimate and feels like your experiencing something a bit special, like hernan the year before last at the closing party when the dance floor were on thier hands and knees to the last tune.

taking it to Priv would be still good but it wont be any different to any other night on the island, rammed hot, and not anything special.

as for being tired old prog....i say phooowey to you......beats the shoite FMIF churns out

you might be getting mixed up with gatecrasher, which moved from pacha to eden mid season in 2000. renaissance was at privilege from the start.

Are you joking? Just saw Howells a few weeks ago and Satoshi last autumn and both were great as ever. And Cattaneo brings down the house every time. Definitely 3 of my top 10 DJs.

Looking forward to Satoshi again Saturday after next 8)

I saw him at Renaissance/Pacha last Aug and I thought his set was very flat- I dunno maybe it was just me?

Maybe he didn't had his night, dj's are human to.
Here in Holland, Renaissance is still big, inc Danny Howells8O

I hope Renaissance will stay @ Pacha, those nights are special, like someone said before...it's all about the music:!:
