Remixing

How can I go about performing a remix of a song, in particular, getting an acapella or instrumental of a song? Ive searched high and low on the web (and I mean very high and very low) but i cant find the wav or mp3 for the songs i want.

They sometimes have instrumentals on the original vinyls, if not then you'll have to make your own by sampling and looping or summet.
