Rave capital faces tourism crisis

thanks god i dont stay in london!

a vodka and dash up here in scotland is about 2.50- 3 quid in the clubs

There are cheaper places to drink obviously but the big clubs charge in that region which I spose is just par for par with the big Ibizan clubs charging the same.

5/6 years ago when Home in London had its short-lived career it was about £5 for vodka redbull then, they didn't even give you the full can of redbull PLUS the tap water in the toilets was warm so undrinkable so it was pretty much like Ibiza

It’s very easy to walk in and go ‘Oh the drinks are so expensive’. But if you take that same drink, and drink it in London, it’ll cost you more. Because we all know that when you buy a drink in England, it’s one third. You buy a drink in Pacha, it’s very nearly a treble. You can see why someone would think a vodka limon is expensive, but when you break it down it isn’t. And if it bothers them that much there’s a little bar round the corner where they’re three euros."

from Ibiza Voice

I completely agree with re to alcohol drink prices, a glass of wine in most London clubs will cost me £5-£6 and a wine in most Ibizan clubs will cost me 8-10 euros and spirits/mixers and beers and pretty similarly matched. The only thing that is overpriced imo is water in clubs in Ibiza.

I also agree with this 100%

Whenever i buy a JD & coke in Pacha the glass is literally ¾ full of JD. The coke barely changes the colour of the drink. If you bought a separate coke you could probably get the equivalent of 3/4 of the same drink back home.

I bought a JD & coke while out on Saturday night (in a bar). It cost £ 5.50 and it was so weak i may as well have just paid for a coke

as a rule of thumb those that can afford Pacha, manumission et al generally don't fall into the West End chav brigade category...

so the super clubs will stay packed... and the chavvers won't bother with the place.

Great for the island in the sense that won't be full of so many tw@s. bad for those depending on their business and for clubbers who ain't nessacarily got big bucks but wanna enjoy Ibiza

I'm not sure if this argument about drinks is a reflection of Ibiza being affordable or London being insanely expensive. To be honest, I think it's the latter.

Moscow is probably a better comparison, given that drink alcohol content is about the same (twice the stingy UK levels). This is a pretty expensive city for most things, but not quite London level.

My wife's favorite drink, vodka-red bull, costs £6.00 - 9.50 in the clubs we go to here (but usually not the full can of Red Bull). So in that way, Moscow and Ibiza are about the same.

On the other hand, a beer costs £2.00 - 4.50 in a Moscow club. Compare that with £ 6.5 in a major Ibiza club and there's a definite difference.

The cost of water in Ibiza, of course, is insane. Here it's £2-3. There, £6.5.

El Divino is about the only exception among the big clubs. Their prices are right in line with Moscow prices.

The Ibiza drink prices would be bearable if you hadn't just paid 30-50 euros to get in (20-40 ex. one drink on some nights). That's way more than in Moscow and even more than in most nights I've been to in London.

i just put my old accountancy hat on and had a look at mr. whittle's figures.

employ 1 dj at 20000 euros and 140 members of staff for one night and you need 600 punters in through the door at 60 euros a pop to break even and cover your costs.

every other punter is pure profit (sorry mr tong) and every drink sold is pure profit above it's wholesale cost, and we all know how much that is!

i believe pacha probably gets about 3000 people a night then 144000 euros profit is made.

(i haven't taken danny's salary into account in my figures)

140 members of staff?

Should be no problem getting served then.

:D

the other point to make about dw's statement is that sales price is not a function of cost, it is related to market forces. hence my fiat punto, manufactured in italy cost me one third less to buy in spain than in england. why? because brits pay more for cars because they earn more.
pacha can charge whatever price it is they charge to get in and for drinks because people want to buy into that lifestyle. as long as they keep going pacha will continue to charge them.

Is this really the case or is this another piece of quality journalism?

August last year, I was doing a promotion with a 20 people group. A fire broke in hotel tres carabelas and I had to move the group to another hotel.
It took me 10 min to find 15 rooms in Hotel torre del mar.
Was I just lucky or is it really the case?
