I heard something today from a very reputable source and if it is true (and I have no reason to believe it isn't true) then there could be some very shocking changes to our fave island in the not too distant future :? 8O

Stop scaremongering Barbara  You're being as bad as the reporter in question  ;)

(pm me please, immediately  )

No it's not the case. It's quite strange after I've fought my way through queues of traffic, sat on packed club buses with hundreds of people, had my toes trodden on by thousands in clubs all over the island, to the be told by Graham Ogilvy that all of it was in fact a hallucination.

Ibiza might be many things, but quiet in August is not one of them.

The reason why it's expensive is because it's over-subscribed. Does he think that economic principles work differently here?

Thats why i posted it Dr, I was suprised when i read it because it seems to be in contrast to everything else i've read. Journalists need to do more research

That's the weirdest thing. It's so easy to find busy parties, and yet Mr Ogilvy chose to get quotes about the night life from some saddo with an empty bar.

:?: :?:

Why didn't he ask me?

:D :D

And bar maids who make you feel bad for not tipping after you've just paid 12 euros for a brandy n coke.

True! One of these Pacha girlies told me after overpaying a drink and asking me for the tip: "I'd like to buy a new dress"

I have spent the past week searching for a hotel/villa/apart/ for this weekend in Ibiza and the whole Island is bloody booked! If there is a slump in tourism it certainly isnt in August. Having probs hiring a car too!

Ibiza Super-clubs Say 'Crisis- What Crisis?'

Pacha director Danny Whittle and Judgement Sunday promoter Judge Jules laughed off a fresh 'Ibiza is dead' story in British newspaper The Scotsman this week, telling Skrufff that both their clubs are thriving.

Scotsman club expert Graham Ogilvy claimed that sky high club prices have finally forced clubbers to 'desert Ibiza for more exotic locations' prompting 'some of Europe's best known clubs to frantically try to stoke up business.'

"I wonder if this journo has visited the same island as me, did he stop off in Menorca by mistake?" said Jules.

"The island is rammed, Judgement Sundays has been enjoying its busiest season in years, and all the major club nights are telling the same story. I don't know how much more I can say," he added.

Pacha's brand director Danny Whittle was equally perplexed, declaring "I have to say I don't see any crisis this season, Ibiza is packed."

"We're on course to finish this year having had the best year ever, at least 10% up on last year, and our hotel has been booked solid throughout the season," Danny continued.

"Ibiza has become to dance music and nightclubbing what Vegas is to gambling and no-one one can take this away," he added, "We just have to keep it fresh and better every year."

im just back from my 5th year in a row and i have to say im getting totally fed up with the drink prices in the big clubs, its absolutely shocking!

its amazing how quick your money dissappears when in the likes of pacha and space, and as mentioned above those barmaids have an absolute cheek looking for a tip.

if they all put their prices down to a reasonable level, the owners would still make a total mint! so whats the problem?? total greed!

i really dont mind the entry prices but the drinks are just a fukcin joke!

i think ill be giving it a miss next year too :(

Danny Whittle from Pacha:

"If you want cheap drinks there are plenty of places that sell them, but if they want to drink in Pacha then it’s going to cost them. It costs us. Just the price of the dj would make most general public faint because they wouldn’t believe for one minute that the dj was earning that kind of money.

"You can pay anything between 10 and 20,000 euros for one night, and most clubs in Ibiza do every night. That’s just one person, and then when you look you’ve got 140 other staff members, then you’ve got your cleaners, and it all adds up. It’s very easy to walk in and go ‘Oh the drinks are so expensive’. But if you take that same drink, and drink it in London, it’ll cost you more. Because we all know that when you buy a drink in England, it’s one third. You buy a drink in Pacha, it’s very nearly a treble. You can see why someone would think a vodka limon is expensive, but when you break it down it isn’t. And if it bothers them that much there’s a little bar round the corner where they’re three euros."

I completely agree with re to alcohol drink prices, a glass of wine in most London clubs will cost me £5-£6 and a wine in most Ibizan clubs will cost me 8-10 euros and spirits/mixers and beers and pretty similarly matched. The only thing that is overpriced imo is water in clubs in Ibiza.
