Very wise!

I'm going to find a good quality, reliable butcher and start buying my poultry from there instead.

I very rarely eat red meat. I don't see any reason why we need it in our diet.

Cos a grilled beef steak with cheese sauce it's yummy from time to time ;)

We all consume lots of things we don't need!

We don't just eat to survive!

Yeah i know, but why should these animals suffer so much just for our 'pleasure'?

There are plenty of foods out there which provide culinary pleasure without causing suffering to our fellow species of the animal kingdom.

Man has eaten red meat since time began! Fair enough if you want to buy ethically (as I do) but IMO you don't need to go altering the food chain in order to protect animals.

It's not exactly the same red meat we've been eating since time began though is it?

It's still our right to eat meat though. Don't think the powers would be would approve if we started hunting for our own again so what are us carnivores to do :?:

It would be nice to think that people buy their meat from a reliable source. I appreciate how difficult that may be but after seeing the Dispatches program i'm definately going to find an alternative supply than say Sainsbury's etc.

Supermarkets are only as good as their suppliers...

My mums good friends with the guy who owns the company that supplies all Tesco's Beef in the UK. I've been to the factory/processing plant many a time to pick up cuts/joints and i can say that the quality is very high. He also supplies to a lot of well known/expensive restaurants etc.

I'll be having a drink at 15 later probably before picking up a car from my club opposite it, i'll ask jamie about his meat if i see him there or at the club ;)

Damn right. I've worked briefly in a couple of meat factories and it's gross.

meat is divided into 3 grades A, B and C

A = the stuff that looks ok so can go to supermarkets

B = poor little blighters that have been kicked around the warehouse, before or after death, and are brused, have limbs missing or broken bones from the contortions made whilst being electricuted. These go to restuarants where the customer never sees the meat before it's cooked.

Who wants to see a one legged chuck in the meat isle with one breast missing?

C = burgers, sausages etc

yummy

You are totally righ, N8, but as I don't know my supermarkets supliers and the meat up in the mountains tastes double good, I stick in my old butcher ;)

I visited last year a big green house where they had tomatos and peppers for Tesco. It was very interesting to see that they don't add too many chemical stuff on them, but a normal tomato plant gives 10 kg of tomatos and they usually got 50... that's not normal. Also it was very surprising to see that the quality standars are always external, if the tomato is not perfectly red then it's class B, if the tomato has a strange shape then is class B... And when you opened the tomato it tasted water and it was all fluffy. 8O

I always got veggies from biological markets and altho after our visit to the greenhouse we know we can relay in the supermakets veggies, we like tasty food and not good looking food ;)

I heard that the meat in 'chicken spread' is what is scraped from a chicken's foot!

8O

That is thrown out thankfully. Had one day on the chicken feet (a delicacy in China) line and the skin is removed by spinning the feet in a huge drum filled with kinda mini black dildos and boiling water. the skin comes off, forms a 6 inch sludge on the floor and is shovelled outside in a big bin to sit in the sun...

yummy

anyone feeling like they wanna escape? :?

just stress stress stress at the moment.
Every single friggin' day.

im trying to do my job and have wasted a whole day for a client to get her arse in gear. (bet she found time to go out on the razz at weekend i bet ya!)

anyone own a farm and need a farm hand?

Sounds like you could do with a complete change Chewie.

A couple of centuries ago  I was a Plumbing & Heating Engineer. There was a time when I couldn't get work as the building industry was going thru a slump. So, I went to work for Elddis Caravans as a labourer driving a titchy Kabota tractor. I took finished Caravans from the end of the production line and parked them in a large field, also, brought Caravans from the park to load lorries for dispatch. Did this for around 10 months, the pay was sh*te but I thoroughly enjoyed the change. Went back to my trade after that totally refreshed.

I've also changed career several times; Plumbing & Heating Eng., Computer Programmer, teaching Computer Programming, Nightclub Manager & Licensee & now.................Professional DJ & part-time driver............and never been happier. :D Normally only DJ Fri/Sat and maybe one driving job per week. 8O Aah, bliss! :D

What about doing something physical part-time on a weekend, like helping out the groundsman at yer local cricket club/football club/golf course. Bit of labouring for a local builder/plumber/roofer perhaps. Any farms near you? They all will probably pay sh*te but it can be very therapeutic doing something physical that's a million miles away from what you normally do.

What driving jobs do you do, Les?

Driving guys like this after they've finished 'work' ? ;)

Nah, family has a haulage business. Drive a small van to Stanwell, Heathrow every coupla weeks with parcels for Shell UK, sometimes its in the Sprinter van (white van man  ). Other times I drive a 7 1/2 tonne curtain sided wagon. We carry supplies to all the tractor makers JCB (Uttoxeter, Rocester, Cheadle, Rugely), Terex (Motherwell), Catapillar (Peterlee), Komatsu (Birtley), Benford, etc.

I like going past JCB WHQ in Uttoxetter...as it means i'm on the way to Alton towers  JCB's grounds/helicopters/sculptures are impressive too 8O

That's the World Spare Parts Headquarters, the main plant is in the middle of Uttoxeter. Was delivering there a few weeks ago on nightshift. At the mini roundabout just off the A50 at 3am I came across a 40 something blokey standing with his hands on his hips looking up at a road sign...........totaly stark bollock naked 8O 8O 8O , not even any shoes on. Had to take a double-take then put my foot down. Wonder whether he was either sleep walking or been to a bachelor party. I favour the bachelor party. Funny as F*ck! Some strange people in Uttoxeter! Be warned, keep driving.
