Ranting Raver: A West End Review

I suppose it's generally quite busy up on that fence :).

Personally, I don't mind admitting that I love the West End. Maybe I've been lucky over the years, and avoided trouble, of which undoubtedly there is sometimes. However, when I'm downing cheaper vodkas and taking in the atmosphere, in my drunken state of mind, I often think there's nowhere else I'd rather be at that moment in time.

State of mind... yea, i'll remember that.

This trip will be my 1st staying there. Only solace is that I know what to expect.

I really really hope to find a gem or two as most people seem to do and start to draw good times from the circus rather than just focusing on the animal cruelty.

various people asked me today who is The Ranting Raver..... needless to say, i don't know anything!!

Loved this article :-) whilst the West End is not a place I would choose to spend my nights out these days I have brilliant memories from my first 2 trips at 18 and 19 - I thought it was amazing! A place like that and all the superclubs on one island, I had died and gone to heaven ha ha! Thankfully FB wasn't around then and the memories only came back after the disposable cameras had been developed!

Good article. The West End is a minefield but it served us well on all of our previous trips to Ibiza, where we stayed in San An. We were always on a budget and it does offer value for money! (that said, the tactic of using one of the adjacent streets to walk straight to the top end of the strip was employed EVERY time, after the first time).

I always enjoyed a crafty hour or so before a night out, sat outside The Boozer, tipping cheap vodka, bottled beer and battery acid shots down my neck and watching the chaos unfold, before hot-footing it to one of the proper music bars for a pre party and a free bus to a club.
Happy memories, staying in PDB this year but I'd still be happy to stick to that itinerary in San An.

in related news, last fri/sat/sun diario de ibiza published a 3-part article that i'm sure pissed off the san an authorities and the west end bar owners. the titles say it all.....

 history of the west-end (I): this is how the trash-tourism was born
 history of the west-end (II): from drunkenness to drugs
 history of the west-end (III and last): sant antoni - a consolidated disaster

Never did the West End as i think i could do this sorta stuff at home and im coming to Ibiza for a reason.

Anyway is the West End that bad? Fights and messy English people everywhere?

Sounds a bit like the Kings Cross in Australia. Fights, Sex & drugs.

There will always be a west end of some shape or form in Ibiza. The Mary Whitehouse types will continue to complain about it, but as long as capitalism is alive, the fundamental cornerstone of that system, supply and demand, will dictate that the West End will survive also.

I wouldn't go to the West End for a night out as such, but as part of a night out it can be hilarious viewing and I really would encourage people just to hold their snob noses and spend a couple of hours there on a holiday, it is an experience.
