What is the "very special guest" thing?

Do they get an extra long set?

Are they there all night doing some kind of back to back with the other DJ's?

Do they get a special hat to wear?

Extra cheese on their pizza?

Are they suspended from the ceiling and treated like a effluent pinata?

total guess:

they're a bigger name/same level name as the headliner
so its a title to make them feel special

similar to the movies/television
Big actors are first in the credits but sometimes a big star has a supporting role and pops up as "special guest"

It's to keep the artists (more often than not their agents!!) happy when they're not head of the bill.

Check. And completely info free (should run for public office). But is it worth planning a trip around?

If the special DJ gets only like 1 hour then no.

If it's like a 3 hour set, yes.

I'm specifically looking at the Claptone dates. He has both regular billing and special... While the rest of the line up is good, I would plan a trip around seeing him play an extended set.
