Put Em' High............

i buy the albums...

1. cos i like the majority of the tracks on em...
2. cos theyre unmixed...

as for being cheesy n predictable... sometimes it is... sometimes it aint... depends who's playing... i personally like a mix of some tracks i know and some i dont.

have noticed the crowd being a lot less friendlier at some venues tho... kinda like being in a pub with decent music and people who actually make an effort to go out.

sadly that aint HK's fault who walks thorough the door tho...

What is the point of moaning about music policy then going to Hed Kandi ?? It's more of an event in my opinion with 'pop' house for people who arent that fussed about the music and just want to have a laugh.

And anyway - its not as if you HAVE to go to Hed Kandi to hear that type of music - you can go to any one of thousands of 'funky' house nights around the UK. It's the new pop !!

i dont really know about the clubs cause i never been to a HK night cause i dont think it is worth the rediculous door price the club near me charges but even i know they play the same tunes as my mates come back and tell me what they play and its the same every month.

Did You Know:

It cost more to get into a hed Kandi night in my local club than it does to go and see Tiesto or Paul Van Dyk there.

nowt wrong with funky house!

like i said, it about balance...

Sunday nights at Stereo (inc last night), are always FREE entry, nada, zilch, zero. It's a pub. :D

Hed Kandi are holding a 5th birthday party on 20th August at Foundation, Newcastle with Stoney, John Jones, Therese and residents Ross O'Donnel and Iain Shepherd 10pm - 3am. Official warmup at Stereo beforehand 7pm - midnight. Tickets from Stereo on the night 10 quid, pay at the door 12 quid.

I've no idea how this price compares to other parts of the country. It seems quite reasonable to me as my local nightclub (holds 1,100) charges 4 quid for a high energy rave/techno tripe night. 8O 8O 8O I think most nightclubs in Newcastle charge between 5 -10 quid for a normal weekend night.

The same again and again PA's seem lame too. I heard peyton and therese singing their songs last year. Yet they're still doing the same thing at nights now. Why not new singers doing pa's from new tunes too? Maybe this has happened and i dont know about it.

Peyton and theriss do PA's for HK because they are signed to them. If another big vocal track gets signed to Hk then i'm sure they will try and get them to PA too. Not all vocalists are suitable for a live PA. I think theriss has been with Hk for a while now so thats why she makes a lot of appearances.

Peyton's PAs are 'da nutz'

dam0 is dead right about some vocalists not being right.

my ears were horrednously offended by the large bird who sings with Basement Jazz on Romeo once

Her who does Shakedown- At Night was pretty terrible at Pacha one night too.

Anyone seen Danni Minogue at El Divinio then. not for me i think

I'll pretend I dodnt hear that (if you excuse the pun).

Terra Deva is one of the best vocalists around!

Sting me red, not to mention At night, is a classic round my house :P

Terra Deva is indeed the most amazing vocalist, she's never failed to impress. she's an amazing dancer too :D

But what is she like at PA?

Who cares, she's a singer, not an assistant.

Thats the argument here though, russ said she was crap live. She's not necessarily a fantastic singer because she sounded good on a few records. I'm not saying she's crap but you cant judge a singer by her tracks anymore. A great deal of editing takes place as well as overdubbing etc. A good example of this is the vocalist for lee cabrera's 'shake it'. Although the lyrics were shocking the actual vocal sounded fine on the track. When it came to her live performances we all got to hear how dreadful her voice really was. By the sound of it, Terra cant handle herself when it comes to live. Either that or the conditions were poor.

When i said vocalist i meant in the studio and live PA. Every time i've heard her she's been amazing. Even singing other peoples songs inpromtu she's the best :D

I believe she does have a rep for being able to cut it live. maybe she had an off night or something

Agreed. Not that this sort of thing is exclusive to house. Stone Roses - seminal, changed my life, wrote some of the best music of my lifetime and post production Ian Brown sounded like a god. Live - he sounded like he was being trampled on a stairwell by a heard of cows!
