Promoter question

I have a Job and accommodation sorted working for an established company in Ibiza...

I will be working for the company selling tickets to the big clubs and also the parties that they hold in smaller venues. The question is (I hope its not a stupid/obvious one) should I be expecting a lot of competition from other companies doing the same thing? Also the revellers on the island; do they usually have their tickets sorted or do they usually try to sort something out last minute, or wait for us 'promoters' to offer them tickets to places and venues on the Island?

This will be my first time over there and I can't wait to experience it all..

Would like to get a heads up

Any advice is much appreciated

Thanks

Who are you working for? is it pre-parties and nightclub entry or just nightclub entry? is it beach based or hotel based selling? Is it in pairs or individually? Also whats your commission per ticket?

I did it last summer, and the answer to those questions will probably let me answer your question!

Its a combination of pre-parties and Nightclub entries and is beach-based selling, I think mainly working alone.. Commission I'm told is minimum €10 a ticket..

Hope this helps

It'll probably be in pairs...you can do well if your good at selling. I know a girl two years ok who could sell about 50 a day! She made a fortune...but then I know people who struggle with it.

it's easier to get younger people who havent been to ibiza before. Those in the know wont pay 20 euros extra for a pre-bar thats often not that good and for a free coach when you can get free buses anyway :/

is it based in playa d'en bossa or San An?

Thank you.. It will be selling at playa d'en bossa.. I'm sure though that the tickets we'll be selling will be of interest to the individuals because we will be selling at a discounted price to paying on the door at the clubs (although I could be wrong).

My main aim is to make contacts within the music scene and Ibiza itself, and promoting will most probably teach me a thing or two..

Is there much of a difference in terms of selling in San Antonia & playa d'en bossa?

Ah, although you may be selling cheaper than on the door it's pretty rare that people pay the door price. Pre sale tickets like you have essentialy all end up costing the same so it will come down to your chat and picking the right groups of ppl I rkn. Also depends who u are selling for, some parties simply aren't that popular

Someone will no doubt throw something at me for this but...

In my opinion Bossa is more european. If you spoke Italian, spanish or German you'd probably do a lot better (although as us ignorant english know, most of the world speaks english :spank:) San Antonio is full of your average stupid pissed up tourists. These where my main business last year. When drunk a group of lads will buy anything off a girl in a bikini.

All in all though, know your music, be polite, be helpfull, learn as much as you can about the island and pass this information on for free. People will soon see u as a person to know (loads of groups come out 3-4 times the season) and they'll use your services again!

Thank you both, Will have a job on my hands

If anybody feels to add anything else please feel free any advice is good for me

Thanks again !

im new to ibiza aswell m8 never been hope it is what its made out to be!! I have alot of experience in promotion i managed teams in falaraki marbella and leeds, what i have noticed is that playa den bossa is as mentioned above is very european (good if you want something different or a swedish girlfriend) i do attempt to speak the language of the country i am in, but u will find germans and especially austrians are as tight as a ducks arse and if u don't speak there language they will just stare at u like a piece of **** and walk past at least english tell you to **** off lol as the girl mentioned there good at selling to pissed horny men, that think there guna get some (see simon off in betweeners perfect example lol) if ur a lad it helps if ur good looking get fit as and ripped to pieces if u r going to be envolved with any sort of promo sex sells the world over guranteed, talk bollox and stretch the truth if you have to, speak to them like you have known them for ever and be asertive and informative that way they will listen and be confident what ur selling them is the real deal, id give you some more advice but arent letting my tatics out use ur common sense and am sure eventually ull be selling fire in hell.

my biggest selling technique was always hold one of their hands, its very personaly, most people in the street dont normally do it and distracts ppl a lot!

That and dont talk about sales. atlk about whre they're going, what music theyre into, blah de blah and then tickets normally come up in conversation.

@ Dan,I'm not surprised the english tell you to **** off! That's because they understand the language.
How do you expect people to react if they don't understand you?
Anyway, it's good to see someone who's never been there giving advice about the intricate system of selling club tickets.....don't tell me it's the same everywhere etc.

Firstly i am english so yes they do understand me. Before you dig your aw in for starters me and my teams weather falaraki leeds marbella have always been succsesful i soppose dreamers plato or gatcrasher, mint, fith, liquid etc i is nothing like, pull your head out of your arse before you make comments like that again it does not matter where or who you pr when you have had it constantly for a lenth of time you will get told to **** off end of story weather your nice or not nice and i think 100 percent of this board will agree, hence why been a calm headed person and been able to take rejection abuse etc is all part of been a pr, the reason i don't normally post on these sorts of boards is because of tossers like you that have little or no intelligence and just like to make comments and try and derogotise people that haven't been to the island or made many posts as for an itricate sytem you want to get over yourself and stop smoking crack, every one has different ways of selling and each way will work with each individual.

How can selling be the same everywhere when you are selling different things, to different people, in a different place? My advise to Viibes is no matter how much you want to try and learn everything before arriving you will only truly know how you will go about selling once you get there and start doing it.

And for the record ''DON'' I was giving general advice on PRing in general, as I stated at first I have never been to Ibiza, and spoke about my experiences with people from the country's I HAVE worked in. The only thing I said was about the foreigners was they are tight and they are we used to see Austrians buying beer from the kiosks and standing outside the bars drinking so they could listen to the music and drink cheap beer, and sorry I miss read your first post (stating I am English). As an idea I am also an engineer, but were as I could go to Ibiza and use my sales skills and adapt to new ways, there is no way off the top of your head you could work out the latent heat transfer from an r22 system running at 24.5 bar with an outside temp of 11 degrees and relative humidity at 57% now that is completely different to sales not selling in a different country. Yes I appreciate Ibiza will be different as it is so famous and the clubs are bigger so it will take more organising and more staff, the point I was making is if u start at the top of bar street for example and everyone on the way down prs you it will drive you insane it would me or anybody else. Andy there is no rant in that it was information with a hint of sarcasm sales are sales you adapt to selling different things in different places if you can't do that you are not very good. Either way it has always been club tickets foam party's bar crawls boat party's etc. madness

And.....breathe...... I hear what your getting at Dan but that rant above doesnt make alot of sense when you read it back. For the record I thought most of your points were valid in the first place although I wouldnt generalise about a nation being titght for taking their own drinks and standing outside bars , literally EVERYONE does this on PDB :)
