you may remember that we moved to our new house a couple of months ago and that i didn't appear on this site for about 6 weeks due to lack of electricity, phone connection and then adsl connection. Though we bought a house that was over 5 years old it had never been lived in and had been more or less abandoned for 3 years. the garden was like a jungle and we have spent many long hours trying to clear it. we are slowly but surely succeeding and getting the place into tip-top condition both inside and out.
we've had to spend a fortune buying light fittings, about 26 in all, and having the whole electrical and plumbing system overhauled as doing nothing for 5 years doesn't help it.

outside, we've had trees chopped down, cleared acres of creepers, had the pool area tiled to make it bigger and done lots of painting work. we've just started to plant newer, less unruly vegetation, like lemon and apricot trees, and i've got my own indigeinous plant section come rockery too.

i was even up a ladder yesterday with my new saw trimming the palm tree!but we still have lots to do........
 
Its lovely Stephen - you must get such a sense of satisfaction from all that work and actually starting to see the end result, well done - and good luck with the rest of the work.......

On which part of the Island do you live, North, South, East, West?
 
Looking good! Nothing more satisfying than seeing the fruits of your labour. You must be proud of yourself.
 
we're right in the middle of san jose village - two minutes up the lane from raco verd - my favourite bar.

it's odd for us to be working hard like this as it's our first ever garden but we're finding physical labour quite pleasant - we go to bed tired but happy every night. (well we do now we've got our leccy blanket - we were absolutely perished in december without electricity)

can you just clarify why in ibiza you need electric blankets when in the UK no one has them anymore and you have considerably milder winters?

is it because you are old? :lol: ;)
 
i am neither southern nor a shandy drinker but it gets mighty cold here at night as we have no carpets, just freezing cold floor tiles, and at the time no central heating.

in fact it reminded me of when we lived in a shoe box in the middle of a lake when me dad worked 48 hour shifts down't pit.
we had to use the water form the swimming pool to flush the toilets then as well!

Yep I understand what your saying - my mother puts carpets down and gets oil heaters for her house in Cyprus after November - always complaining about the coldness from the marble tiles......
 
Nothing more satisfying though, than developing your own garden .... just wait till it gets warmer and you can sit out with a cool glass of something or other, and watch the sun go down !

Don't suppose you're having a house warming ? :D

btw, re the shandy drinking, Stephen is about the most 'northern' person i've ever met :D
