Prob preaching to converted

yes, converted years ago!!

he's got all the tricks but for me his best attribute is his ability to inspire success in his team aside from physically doing it himself. In that way he is a better leader than any of your captain marvels and guvnors.

in that way he's in a totally different league to any of the recent brazilian exports ronaldo, rivaldo, kaka, adriano and the weakest export - robinho.

no he's not, i think players/leaders like him may be an an example by the way they play but for all the shouting i don't actually think they inspire as much as ronaldinho or for example zidane or even to a certain extent rooney. the technical ability of those players inspires a certain type of confidence in the rest of the team...............more than tony adams or psycho or souness screaming at you when you f**k up!

its difficult to explain but i'm certain that zizou or marco van basten have inspired success in their teams more so than your stereotypical english captain (and its not just cos they're better players in better teams either - they have the gift;) )

oooh

controversial comments there my man, and I agree with what you say....however... If you look at the likes of keane, pearce, adams et al and you watch them closely, it's not just bawling, and it's actually quite constructive and a different kind of motivation, the likes of beckham, gascoigne, lineker all have relived (in their books) situations where the chips have been down and many heads had dropped and then the likes of the aforementioned have gone round the team and given everyone a a lift and turned the situation round, these technically brilliant players may inspire with their trickery, but when heads start to drop you need a bit of "verbal" rather than seeing someone do a few "step overs" ;)

yeah but my original point about ronny waas that his inspiration transcends his own technical ability and often when barca play, he may not be involved in the goals/play but his mere presence on the pitch seemingly has an effect on the rest of the team.

i think the other type of leaders are good when the chips are down but I still don't think they can inspire success like some (very few mind) flair players. and like i said its not them necessarily obtaining the success single handedly.

ahhh

I know extactly what you mean, bit like argentina with maradona, brasil with pele? the dutch with cruyff and then van basten even liverpool with dalgleish, arsenal with henry (a couple of years ago) that self belief in your own ability that causes you to fear no-one? I have heard roy keane, david beckham, ferguson all say the same about the treble winning man u squad, a rare thing that is both great and mesmerising to behold??
