Privilege's lack of decent events

How often was the main room open back when Ku/Priv was in its Prime? Just seems they have lost of really good events this year but most only use Vista which is a shame because for my first visit id like to see it all in full flow!
It was usually the only room open although manu would later open up a second room which was more housey.

What was different back then was that the club didn't open every night. There were far less nights and clubs on the island. Some nights like cream had more than one main event each week while others had proper afters following their club night.

Ku and Privilege from memory was open around 3-4 times a week and busy for at least three of them. A typical week would include manu, a U.K. House, prog or trance night, a German techno or tech trance event and maybe something else like an in house or one off promotion. The only time it was in full flow was for manmission or radio 1.

Cream at their height hedged their bets and ran events at amnesia and privilege for a while but the latter was too big even for them, except when they promoted the radio 1 nights. However even they needed help in the early days for these with up yer ronson (a Leeds based club that ran Tuesdays at amnesia) co-promoting. Cream decamped and went back to amnesia for good and ran Thursday and Saturdays before settling with what they have now.

Sasha and Digweed would most likely be my 4th choice on a Tuesday.

1. Hi
2. Pacha
3. Sankeys

And I can imagine this will also be the case for alot of 18-30 year olds.

I would just hold out and hope Sasha appears on the Circoloco lineup of that week.

Amazing how the tide can switch on these forums!

Some 12-15 months ago Sasha x Digweed was just a pie-in-sky fantasy that loads of people were yearning for but acknowledged was unlikely to happen again.

As little as 8-months ago people were desperately hoping they were going to play unannounced together at Space Closing.

And here we are today and people are writing them off before the season has hardly began! Weird.

As soon as it was announced it was actually happening people starting turning their noses up at it. Like I said before on here, let's just wait and see what happens when the night starts..

Is the pool now covered over and if so, how much does this increase capacity by!??!

Seems like the island is reaching saturation point, not only for traffic and people, but for the amount of club nights on offer every night... If the capacity of KU is still around 10,000, there's no way i can see it getting near that... No matter who is on unfortunately...

My only experience of the place was on a Saturday night for Monza in 2008... Me and my mate had been at the Azuli Records night in Space on the Friday straight after jumping off the plane... Jo Mills was playing on the terrace... We got given free tickets for Monza at Ku when we were walking through PDB on the Saturday afternoon in a bit of a state, which included a free drink as well...

I was really looking forward to it, thinking it would be like a Manumission sized event!!! Got the discobus there and it was half-empty at best!! The sound was shit because it just echoed throughout the building due to a serious lack of people there... We got our free double vodka and coke, walked about the place for half an hour or so and headed off across the road to Amnesia... It was nicely packed!!

I was just about to say the same

The two times I've seen Sasha (Space opening and closing last year) he blew me away. Particularly at the opening.

I've never seen Digweed live, but the sets I've heard from him across a number of years have generally always been good.

Personally from a musical perspective this would easily be my night of choice on a Tuesday, despite there being some other decent options.

Maybe privilege should just get some big pop acts like Coldplay, Kanye West, Madonna etc. to fill up that damn main room.

I genuinely think there is too much competition on Tuesdays; an educated guess would say Tuesdays at Privilege won't be the success everyone seems to think it will be.

Time will tell though.

any news on how busy Suara was last night? interested to see how it goes, might be my Sunday night

our intern georgia went and just told me that it was sadly not that busy. busy enough at the start, but then died down. I personally always thought it´s a bit of an early start for them tbh.

shame, hopefully in July it'll pick up.

Going on last year, then IMARICHBITCH, but music might not be to your taste.. but I think this was Priv's most popular night last year

Only saw it at capacity the one time I went to manumission. After that it was meganite and monza - half capacity. The last time I went to privilege it was monza but there was only about 500 people in the main room and curtained off beyond belief...
Agree with you , never saw it packed except for manumission, but they were partys that were able to fill up the whole venue ( cream , balearic people , la troya ) but not as full as manumission but they were definitely enough people ...

Ah right thanks. Musically how would you describe it? Also it depends how we fair during the week... by fri/sat we might not be up to it

Edit: just googled it... probably not quite my music style. Mate might enjoy it so might still go :)
