Unfortunately, for my family it has always been another day off. When I moved to the US, it was just me and my sister, and it was no different. I always wanted to have spend X-Mas in a way that I read in books or saw it in movies, but that never happened, and so Christmas was very depressing for me till 2001.
Since then I have been invited by my best friend to his place every year. His wife would make a great Danish dinner and dessert. But the best part would be to sit in front of the warm crackling fire see the two kids sparkly eyed and all excited, running with their little feet ready to open all the presents. I love the crackling sound of the firewood. I guess it is the mere simplicity of things that makes it so pleasant.
