I could probably explain for hours about this whole subject, but I'll try to be concise.
bora bora has the correct licenses and as pointed out above, they actually stick to their boundaries and don't try to get bigger as many others have tried this summer. I personally am no big fan of bora bora, but it's simple - nowadays they do things the correct way and thus don't get in trouble. so with BB, there is an actual venue pretty much on the beach with a pretty good soundsystem too, where you can party 7 days a week for 5 months. and just to add - it's not the authorities' fault that bora bora has somehow fallen out of fashion for some people.
then people need to realise the following. mexico has a one month season with bpm and pre- as well as post-parties. croatia's scene is also an entirely different one with their festivals and it's not nonstop for 5 months as it's here. what people need to understand is that ibiza is a small island and that in the last 5-10 years the clubbing scene sort of 'invaded' more and more places that are very dear to locals. everyone living here knows tourists (and thus clubbers) are important and I honestly don't know anyone that's against them as such. but a few places have changed a lot lately and that's what people aren't happy about. see, 10 years ago the southern part of playa d'en bossa (say anything south past space) was a lovely and quiet beach. the northern part was always the busy and noisy one, but the southern part was where the locals would go on a sunday with their families and kids etc. now you've got ushuaïa, HRH and all the beach clubs there, being loud and brash and taking up lots of the space with sunloungers and bali beds etc etc etc. same goes for cala bassa to name another example - it used to be the perfect family beach where on sundays whole ibicenco families would rock up and have picnics. I remember seeing lots of abuelos and abuelas sleeping under the trees after lunch while the kids were playing in the shallow water. but since CbbC is there with its wannabe vip style, there's no more room for the families and their sunday picnics. cala bassa might not be loud nowadays, but it's another place that's very dear to the locals and that now has turned into something absolutely grotesque.
people here see all those changes and think 'that's enough now!'. I understand the locals that think 'aren't there already enough places where people can go and have a good time?'. there are places to go partying from afternoon onwards, there are boat parties, there are all the clubs for the night time. and there are still afterhours every now and then. I personally also think they should have let space continue open in the morning - now the issue is simply decentralised, but that's not the issue we're talking about right now.
as for beach parties with seeing the sunrise - I would agree this is surely a lovely thing and if ibiza was a place where for two weeks of the year the electronic music world met, I'd probably also vouch for that. but seeing as we're talking about 5 months a year, I clearly understand why people think 'until midnight's enough'.
I didn't mean to compare Mexico or Croatia to Ibiza, not really fair because they are apples to oranges. Different dynamics in each location, the one that hurts Ibiza the most is the 5 month long party season.
I get that locals don't want the island to be taken over by parties, but it seems like we're all being punished because Ushuaia runined the balance in PDC. I think things have swung too conservative. You have to allow competition or things get stale. No afterhours seems like it's caused more harm than good. I just think there has to be a middle ground that allows some venues to open early and on the beach once in awhile. The license should limit the frequencies of those parties to keep everyone happy.
I know I'm preaching to the choir, it just bothers me. The parties at Beach House and No Name were among my favorite parties last year. Wish they could find a way to make them work.
