Police Crackdown/Changing Clientele of Ibiza (Vice Article)

I could probably explain for hours about this whole subject, but I'll try to be concise.

bora bora has the correct licenses and as pointed out above, they actually stick to their boundaries and don't try to get bigger as many others have tried this summer. I personally am no big fan of bora bora, but it's simple - nowadays they do things the correct way and thus don't get in trouble. so with BB, there is an actual venue pretty much on the beach with a pretty good soundsystem too, where you can party 7 days a week for 5 months. and just to add - it's not the authorities' fault that bora bora has somehow fallen out of fashion for some people.

then people need to realise the following. mexico has a one month season with bpm and pre- as well as post-parties. croatia's scene is also an entirely different one with their festivals and it's not nonstop for 5 months as it's here. what people need to understand is that ibiza is a small island and that in the last 5-10 years the clubbing scene sort of 'invaded' more and more places that are very dear to locals. everyone living here knows tourists (and thus clubbers) are important and I honestly don't know anyone that's against them as such. but a few places have changed a lot lately and that's what people aren't happy about. see, 10 years ago the southern part of playa d'en bossa (say anything south past space) was a lovely and quiet beach. the northern part was always the busy and noisy one, but the southern part was where the locals would go on a sunday with their families and kids etc. now you've got ushuaïa, HRH and all the beach clubs there, being loud and brash and taking up lots of the space with sunloungers and bali beds etc etc etc. same goes for cala bassa to name another example - it used to be the perfect family beach where on sundays whole ibicenco families would rock up and have picnics. I remember seeing lots of abuelos and abuelas sleeping under the trees after lunch while the kids were playing in the shallow water. but since CbbC is there with its wannabe vip style, there's no more room for the families and their sunday picnics. cala bassa might not be loud nowadays, but it's another place that's very dear to the locals and that now has turned into something absolutely grotesque.

people here see all those changes and think 'that's enough now!'. I understand the locals that think 'aren't there already enough places where people can go and have a good time?'. there are places to go partying from afternoon onwards, there are boat parties, there are all the clubs for the night time. and there are still afterhours every now and then. I personally also think they should have let space continue open in the morning - now the issue is simply decentralised, but that's not the issue we're talking about right now.

as for beach parties with seeing the sunrise - I would agree this is surely a lovely thing and if ibiza was a place where for two weeks of the year the electronic music world met, I'd probably also vouch for that. but seeing as we're talking about 5 months a year, I clearly understand why people think 'until midnight's enough'.

I didn't mean to compare Mexico or Croatia to Ibiza, not really fair because they are apples to oranges. Different dynamics in each location, the one that hurts Ibiza the most is the 5 month long party season.

I get that locals don't want the island to be taken over by parties, but it seems like we're all being punished because Ushuaia runined the balance in PDC. I think things have swung too conservative. You have to allow competition or things get stale. No afterhours seems like it's caused more harm than good. I just think there has to be a middle ground that allows some venues to open early and on the beach once in awhile. The license should limit the frequencies of those parties to keep everyone happy.

I know I'm preaching to the choir, it just bothers me. The parties at Beach House and No Name were among my favorite parties last year. Wish they could find a way to make them work.

i agree with the point above, no reason why bora bora cant get a good lieup in every once and a while, i dont care about it being spruced up, infact 'sprucing it up ' will probably move it towards the vip culture
Maybe they feel they don't need to because ppl come anyways for the venue. If beachouse and No Name don't get their act together then maybe Bora Bora will start doing events with bigger DJs? I would then imagine a cover charge at least and some sort of restriction on your own booze

What I meant was that right now you can bring your own booze to the beach area in front of it,no? Well, they'll stop letting you do that for these events, cuz they'll create some barrier or something to not allow you to enter from that area inside Bora Bora when they have a special DJ playing

Yes it's true you can bring your drinks to the public beach. But you're worried you'll have to leave your cooler bag behind and walk to the main entrance to navigate this completely fantasized situation....

I'm just guessing here, but yes. A part of why ppl like Bora Bora is that they can chill nearby with their own drinks and this hypothetical situation could happen where if some big DJ comes to play they might stop you from doing so to cover said DJs booking costs. It doesn't so completely crazy considering how bora Bora is becoming more glitzy as well

Bingo. Theres no real need there, it draws a drunk party going crowd, its a venue prob which would fit nicely in vegas, just throw David Guetta in the booth and charge 80 for cover. Joking aside, they have no need to attract quality music because they dont attract a crowd that looks for that.

+1 for all of the above, totally agree with you.
Initially when I first start coming over (10+ yrs ago,) Ibiza was somewhere I got sneered at for going on holidays, but we had the best times. Now it's the place to be and with numbers increasing, and locals been pushed out, it can be very frustrating and I can see why they object. Plus I'm sure the likes of Ushuaia are happy to keep the ban in place.

I hate the way PDB is heading to be honest, It's gone so expensive and just like a mini miami, and i blame hard rock cafe and ushuaia for that, plus the fact all hotels are getting done up and turning into at least 4 star hotel

not everyone is minted

Of course it was much better having 3 star hotels with drunk people sleeping and vomiting everywhere.
I don't think many people here realize that as you do not like 5 star hotels like Ushuaia and Hard Rock a lot of people in the island don't like the cheap holidays cheap booze kind of crowd.;)

Really? Do you remember the old Hotel Playa den Bossa pool area?:D I think the area is way much better now.
But don't take me worng, you know where I work and despite that i don't like the VIP Ibiza trend at all, but I even like less the BoraBora or San Antonio West End kind of crowd.

ah I'm sure it's better inside what used to be hotel playa d'en bossa. but what I often see nowadays around that location around midnight isn't a lot better than it used to be if I'm perfectly honest. I for one just think the transition hasn't worked both ways - the hotels have gone upscale (and still are), but the crowd hasn't necessarily.
