Paul Oakenfold - Armada

Just got back from 12 days of fun on the white isle and reckon the place is as busy as ive seen it over the last 9 years.

However I decided to goto Armada this year as I havent been before and I must confess to being one of the clubbers who used to chant "oakey, oakey" at Cream in the nineties.

Now there is no denying what this guy has done for dance music and English promoters going out to Ibiza but how ****ing arrogant is he now??

During the whole of his set he played a tuned, walked away from the dex and went talking to some guy int he VIP area. Hed come back near the end of the track do his mix and off he went again for a wander. This happened on and off for about 2 hours. His mixing was poor to say the least and although some awesum tunes were played I couldnt help thinking that hes just a ***** nowadays.

Anyway rant over. Had to get it off my chest and hey who am i to judge, he gets 20k per set and I like many others subsidise it!!!

Rave on.

yeah i saw him in chicago...was very disappointed.

how was the rest of armada? i'm planning on going on the 11th...probably around 1am after carl cox's terrace set at space. specifically markus schulz and armin? i've caught the last few asot and gdjb sets on di.fm (asot311 was especially good)...definitely looking forward to hearing that kind of trance in ibiza. it's almost impossible to find in chicago...even when djs like that come here, they only play boshy sets (heheh...learned that word here a few weeks ago).

Saw Oakenfold on Saturday night - he turned up for his headline set at Loch Lomond half an hour late then only played for 50 minutes - he was a shambles!

I was at Armada that night too. I thought that Markus Shultz (sp?) was great, but Oakenfold was terrible! I had heard poor reviews of him before, but since I had never seen him in person I gave it a go. What a mistake! He kept walking away from the decks and just seemed that he would prefer to be somewhere else. On the flip side, I went to Armada the week before to see Armin and it was awesome (other than they don't do the ice cannon for Armada anymore...). So, I'm still a fan of Armada, especially with the 20 euro door price which includes a drink (except for Oakenfold that cost me 30 euros and no drink), but I am very dissapointed in not going to see Cox and Digweed that same Tuesday night at Space!!!!

30 euros to see Oakie chat to his friends!

I agree with what Lathamstreet_Stu said, I have also been a big fan of Oakie for years and that night he would spend most of his set chatting to his friends standing at the side of the Dj booth, instead of concentrating on mixing, focusing on the music and getting the dancefloor going.

It took me ages to decide whether to go and see Carl Cox & John Digweed at Space or to see Oakie at Armarda Amnesia. Next time ??

Rave, Rave, Rave!

Saw Oakenfold @ amnesia last year and I've noticed he'd rather be socialising in the VIP than meddling about on the decks- Can't be bothered to see him play anymore:(

You missed a great night at Space!!! We too had to decide between them but having seen Oaky in the recent past and him being pretty dire, we decided on Cox instead - sounds like we made absolutely the right choice.

Oakie has been an absolute shambles for a LONG time now...

Oakie has always been massively over-rated, and now it's gone completely to his head there's no way I'd pay to go and see him.

I would have gone for space, although Digger bores the arse off of me...

i have only seen oakey play once, once was enough, that was back in 2000 at pacha, he had his perfecto nights there on tuesdays, we was ok, but someone who i wouldnt go out of my way again to see.
