All booked up for a trip to g___ Paris in May for the Champions League final.

No, not being presumptious about my team (fingers crossed, fingers crossed). Aeroflot just had a sale on tickets and I figured why the hell not.

Anyone have any mid-range hotel recommendations?

when i did a bit of city hopping a few years back (pre-kids), i got into the habit of staying in melia group hotels (quite good quality, good locations, breakfast is awesome:D ).

paris is expensive for hotels but the one we stayed in called tryp blanche fontaine (3 star) was something like £60-70 per night for a double and that was in sep so it may be a little cheaper in may. its 100m from the moulin rouge, near gare de nord station and easy walking distance to my fav area of paris - montmartre8) :D

Cool.

You should enjoy the atmosphere that Liverpool generate John, hope you enjoy it ;)

Lightning doesn't strike twice, dear Pip. That's what happened last year in Istanbul (also non-refundable tickets).

In the end, it turned out to just be a really nice short vacation in Istanbul, which we had not visited before. The 'pool and Milan fans in town actually added a bit of additional spice to the whole thing. We watched the game in a pub, though, as we'd planned to get tix through Chelsea.

This year, I've applied through UEFA so we'll go to the game no matter who plays. Hoping just to see some good football. If not, who's going to complain about 5 days in Paris in spring?!

We've stayed in one of their Trype hotels in Madrid during layovers on the Moscow-Ibiza trek. Decent hotel for a short stay... and the missus quite liked the breakfast.

the breakfast is quality, and i've stayed in 4 or 5 and the format/choice is always very similar. although the difference is noticeable in the champagne. paris 3 star - no champers, barcelona 4 star - fizzy wine, milan 5 star - dom perignon (for breakfast!!:D ).

depends how comfortable you wanna be really - in paris rooms were clean and comfy but not with loads of luxuries. however, if you're like me then you'll not spend much time in the room
