paradise vs hyte

I didn't go out last night but paradise last night must have been a nightmare in terms of how busy it was according to various sources. unsurprising and I had a feeling it would be packed...main reason I didn't go!

at the end .

is it paradise that won?

absolutely yes, paradise was packed every single date. hyte had a few parties that were busy enough and loads of them that weren't.

that said, I did go to hyte closing last night for a bit. I was just too curious. arrived at about 3:30am and the guetlist queues outside were massive - I'm talking guestlist queue back to the parking space guys. so when I saw that I knew that I had underestimated one thing - hyte had done all they could to make their closing a very busy one, so lots of people were guestlisted, either free or discounted.

once inside it was super busy. I have to admit much busier than I had expected. not as packed as music on, but busier than cocoon. but yeah, there was absolutely no competition going on last night and when I realised the guestlist thing it was logic how busy it was inside.

got a bit of mar-t, a bit of pan-pot, a bit of liebing and a bit of dice. in the two hours I was in amnesia, the only tune that stood out and had a tiny bit of melody was hinz & rumhardt - doch (dropped by pan-pot). apart from that, the music to me was generic, formulaic and linear tech house and techno in both rooms (I actually couldn't tell a big difference from one room to another). don't take this as a negative comment though - it's just not my cuppa music wise. so left at 6am.

I spoke to the promoters too and they were of course very happy that their closing was that busy - good for their image of course. but they admitted that their best two parties were their opening and their closing and especially the closing last night was by no means a reflection of any hyte night during the season in terms of how busy it was. something that was also interesting is that the crowd was much younger and closer to music on in terms of style than say the crowd at cocoon.

as mentioned previously, even music on started with huge free workers guestlist and it took them two full seasons until they were able to fill the club (and not just the terrace). so I personally do think hyte will continue, they knew it won't be done in one season.

Hmmm Hyte. They had a lot of big names on their nights, but I agree the music was generic in the terrace when I went in June but way better in the main room with Maceo and Dettmann.

I wish there was more variety as I think this tech stuff has run its course. Really missing the melodies and I was really hoping Ibiza Soind garden nights in Eden would have happened on another day besides Monday ffs.

Maybe next year we'll have a proper Anjunadeep night somewhere. This shit is always cyclical so maybe we'll have more variety

How was Loco Dice over the season? Nobody ever talks about him anymore (maybe there lies the problem)

Maceo Plex was amazing when i was there and i had a fantastic night...but i can see what you're saying about the two rooms having pretty similar music. Think there is a lot of potential if they vary it a bit.

I've not attended Hyte this season as my only Wednesday went to the Paradise opener. But i would think if they kept the main room to the harder or darker sound depending on the lineup (Liebing/Dettman/Pan Pot/etc) and left the terrace for more tech housier/easy listening techno sounds to the likes of Dice/Maceo/Guests, it would make more sense. Maybe that will change next season for the better. I've attended Hyte events in both Ny and Barcelona in 2014 and liked what they did, but their lineups for this season were just not for me with the exception of one or two dates which i wasnt on the island for.

Hyte is pretty much Maceo's unofficial night. the earlier comment about varying it a bit would be appreciated, as the same could be said about other venues and events on the island.
Let's see what happens. This scene is cyclical so maybe we'll see some guys outside the techno/tech house realm playing more. I think there were a couple of nights at Space this past season where the terrace had Guy J and Nick Barren and those guys and Luciano was in the main room? I thought that was a great way to mix it up tastefully.

Going to see him this weekend for the first time in a couple of years, if his essential mix is anything to go by i'll not be impressed

Im no dice fan, but i thought that was just awful, Dave Clarke's this past weekend on the other hand impressive

Agreed & agreed. Totally uninspiring EM. I think Dice got stale real quickly. His "year off" seemed like a few weeks. He has bored me to tears the last 3-4 times I've seen him. It was only 2 or 3 years ago I considered him one of my faves.
