pacha's future...

Very good blog post Bez! I can kind of see what Pacha are doing, and to be honest I now understand it. My only challenge is was this Pacha not always alive in the winter months? The madness of summer is only 4 out of 12 months when they packed it out to pay the rent!

For me it was actually packed out commercial nights like SHM / Tiesto and Guetta (and actually even Subliminal) that were the opposite of what Pacha is all about - and I don't mean that in terms of musical snobbery. They are all about quick fast fun and non-lasting music that has no respect for Pacha's history.

Whereas, nights like Cadenza had a very local Spanish feel to it, Defected had a pure house feel and All Gone even had a local Friday get-together feeling when Tong returned a few years back.

What I am trying to say (badly I know), is its the nights that I think stood for what Pacha was actually all about such as Cadenza, Defected etc are the ones that they are getting rid of! These brands worked well with Pacha and complemented it.

Also, Elrow at Pacha on a Saturday / Sunday would be heaven!

Bez, without trying to sound like a backhanded compliment, I have to say this is your best blog I have read to date.

No speculation or rumours, but dissecting and informative.

Thanks for the feedback....much appreciated.8)

Good points. You are correct what Pacha does in the winter is very much what the club is about........I just think Ricardo has a point to make and it will be very interesting to see what he does....

I would not underestimate him

Can I ask bez and danny k, do you live on ibiza ?, when I post everyone knows who I am, I just wondered who you guys are and how you come to your opinions ? Is it based on actual knowledge or just wild guessing ? Just wondering ?

Hi Danny I have been asked that a lot recently.

I always posted as Bez here not as Dannykay which is the blogs name. It was an ex moderator (who you know) that abused personal data and linked the two names together. If you look at my blog you will see my full profile. I have nothing to hide. I dont live in Ibiza im based near Dublin and its just a one man operation.

My blog is PERSONAL OPINION based on stories from friends that do live and work on the Island. Would be happy to sit down and do an interview if you wanted.

Whats your read on Pacha's future.......your opinion would carry a lot more authority than mine.....

i thought you didnt live here bez, anyway i would love to do an interview with you on this site but with your "friends" that give you stories that do live on ibiza. if there is one thing i cant stand it people who have opinions but wont put their name to them and just go through some writer who freely admits its not their own opinion. there is no freedom of press unless the people speaking are open about who they are, no ?

Its news...simple as that. If people are openly talking about it, I see no reason why relevant news and stories cannot be published....freedom as speech as you refer to.

It is always my opinion not anybody else's. Sources are key tools of any journalists trade and its a fundamental factor that their anonymity is protected, especially if they request it...basic business ethics. You evaluate information and then make a personal judgement based on your own intuition. Its also easier (i think) to make a judgement call when you are one step removed from the industry, not living in Ibiza affords me certain advantages that others dont have. Human nature is predictable and along with gathering intel like reading interviews, twitter, facebook statements and keeping yourself informed, its not that difficult to read a situation. Sources are elements of any story...but I can assure you, they are not the whole.

I can understand why people don't like it, but its part and parcel of the trade especially with social media. Lot of things I dont like about certain businesses, but you have to accept them and get on with it.

Thanks for the interview I look forward to it. Have sent you a message on here.

Good argument Danny, kind of agree with this to a certain extent. However gossip columns and the like have existed since the 1940s and you'll never stop people gossiping or giving an opinion. However, I appreciate its frustrating when it's all about you (especially if its bol_locks).

I'm gonna sound patronising here but when something like you and Pacha parting ways happens - you're always going to get people gossiping or speculating - it's a frea-king big deal on the island. Give an interview to someone and put all the lies and gossip to rest.

Anyway, best of luck and can't wait for your new venture!

And who am I? As my posts show just a guy who spends far too much time on the island during the summer, and my views are always that of a paying punter and nothing more. I say what I think works and what doesn't as a punter and not an "insider".

i dont mind people talking or having opinions at all bez, but this is not the bloody military and there are no official secrets. if people have opinions they should put their name to it. the very fact that you suggest some of your sources are requesting anonymity should suggest to you that it may not be the truth, or their opinion is at the very least bull****. like the fact you spread all over the place about the swedes playing privilege and kids went out and paid for tickets and based their holiday dates around it before you had clear and guaranteed proof that they actually were playing. these kids save up all year for their holiday but you didnt seem to worry to much as long as you got the scoop about the fake gig.
now i like a lot of the stuff you write but some i think needs to be more researched (as you say you do) the last piece you did on me was totally inaccurate.

thanks mr why, and yes you are totally correct this island is covered in gossip and there is nothing to be done to stop it. its just a shame it gets passed off as journalism or the like.
the last piece about me said i was working on another club to be negative to Ricardo etc etc and that is so far from the truth. even if myself and Ricardo have had disagreements the Urgell family will always have my total respect and many of the family members are my good friend especially Ricardos son Hugo, so for anyone to state that i am doing things to hurt them has totally no idea of the truth.

Hi Danny I am not going to get into a slagging match with you here but I will deal with some of the facts that you are trying to twist.

With regard tot he Urgel Family, I never stated there were any "negative" issues between both of you. I said it would be perceived as a competitive & bold move to set up your own shop in Pacha's back garden or territory, especially after the comments you made in an interview straight after you left Pacha. In that interview you, in my opinion, ran down Ricardo for not knowing what a "brand was" and ridiculed the "crazy hair parties" that Pacha held before you arrived. You also made this comment "I will miss the owners dislike of DJs and electronic music the least." http://www.dmcworld.net/dj-tv/entry/features/danny-whittle-1.htmlhttp: If that does not look like negativity I dont know what is. In that interview you could have stated what you are saying now....but you didnt. It was clear you had issues with the man after that interview.

Also in that interview you stated that your good friend Amy Thompson (manager of SHM) and you worked on Ministry of Sound and that it was one of only two nights working at Pacha. Correct me if im wrong, but had David Vincent of Sankeys not established MOS before you and Amy arrived?

On the issue of SHM and you saying I let down the kids by saying that the Swedes were playing Privilege, well this very website stated that Lady GaGa was to play at Privilege also. It was contractual problems that led to both SHM and Lady GaGa not appearing. You know that as well as I do. So having a go at me for that is a cheap shot IMO.

Two times I requested an interview from you and you failed to respond to my messages. In my opinion its clear you have a problem with the press, especially the side that dont write and praise your own agenda. The way a company that you are involved with treated the press at the 123 festival this year was downright rude and disrespectful. One or two people refused to cover it after the way they were treated.

I trust my friends in Ibiza because I respect them. Respect them for their integrity and manners. I will always listen to what those type of people say.

bez, i aint twisting anything, as i said many times, myself and Ricardo have had our disagreements and as i said in that interview they were mostly around the fact that not only does he not particularly like the dj culture he also doesnt like electronic music. my point was i am not working in another club to directly hurt anyone, i only do things for positive reasons.
regarding my mate dave vincent i never said dave wasnt at ministry and yes dave was there the year before me as i was running renaissance the same year.
regarding the swedes etc i dont blame you for a no show but i do think its not good to guide kids to buy holidays etc until there is a 100% confirmation of an event.
lastly i have totally no problem with the press and anyone who knows me from the world of press from dan prince to jonty scruff and many more will tell you i have always worked close with them. although i am a partner in 123, live nation are the owners and it was down to them to deal with the press.

At all times on the SHM@Privilege story it was reported as rumour and speculation and until there was confirmation it would not be official. What motive would I have to tell kids to buy holidays when I knew myself they were only rumours and gossip?

If you want to address any perceived mistruths on the blog I would be happy to clarify them if you or anybody else contact me about it. I do my best to allow fair comment but when people wont even respond to your emails about a story, then you have to go with the rumour. I contacted Amy Thomson and SHM about the break up rumour I published in April last.... No reply. They even came out and publicly denied it 2 days later. Then in June they finally admitted it.

Press that write what their editors and advertisers tell them to do are all great to work with...its the ones that pose the difficult questions or do not agree with the marketing Spin are the ones that should be given some respect as social media kids can see through all the BS that surrounds the industry at the moment.

If I was a partner in a company that dealt with the press in the manner they were afforded last July, than I would be having a word with somebody about it.

I feel we are both coming at this from different opinions, viewpoints and values. I am entitled to mine as much as you are to yours. What I publish in my blog is my opinion people are entitled to disagree with it. I take a position and stick with it. I know some people dont like it but its what I perceive as happening. I have no agenda except for promoting Ibiza. I have made over 5000 written contributions and replies to community members on Tripadvisor. 473 posts with over 300,000 words on the blog where I write as a punter and tourist.....not an insider.

I would be happy to allow you a right of reply and the blog is available for any business in Ibiza that wants to promote itself and fits with my ethos.

careful now bez

there is one small but important difference. privilege never had confirmed the SHM gigs (and so we did never publish anything). lady gaga on the other hand was confirmed by the club, we announced accordingly and in tune with privilege, and after that the gig got cancelled again.

what if privilege had confirmed it to me? Did u ever consider that?

This is gone way off the original thread and I am not going to comment on personal issues any more. Read the blog and comment there if you like.

come on chaps, you cant let me be the last one to post on this thread, I'm only just getting my head round it, and in all honesty I don't know if I've nailed it anyway.

I think I've taken you to task for this line of thinking before. Working in PR, I've actually been in this position.
If I tell you something is false today, and it is, but then it happens 2 months later, that doesn't mean that you were right or that I lied :!:
And if you reported it in April, and it really wasn't true then, that doesn't mean you had a scoop!
