Does anyone believe that Solomun will hold a night in Pacha next year??

It seems that Pacha will need a lot of new fresh air to get into sucess next year again...

Vagabundos are absolutely loosing their gas and Luciano moves straight to Ushuaia... We love are always getting better....
Guetta are making the same move and this year shock with the 2 big Paradise at Circoloco and Enter. at Space...loosing power too..
Tiesto are old and dead as trance....
Morillo and his Subliminal are almost closing the doors and nothing new happens for years...
Defected and All gone occupied a secondary place..and have no big expression...

I think this year Pacha loose the first place in several nights...obviously if nothing happens next year Ushuaia and Space will kick everybody ass...

Same opinion to Amnesia...watch out!!

I doubt Pacha will be joining the stampeed to book him.

Would guess he will continue with Dynamic@sankeys for next season and guest at Elrow, Ushuaia and Space.

I reakon he's the first of a new wave of Dj's that will freshen up the Island next summer.

The thing with the Pacha nights you've listed as losing first place to other nights else where is that they attract a totally different crowd. People who want to see Guetta won't be interested in Hawtin et al.

Trance is dead couldn't be further from the truth. I think 2012 has been a huge year for proper trance. ASOT, Cream, Judgement Sunday & Colors. Can't remember a time before when there have been 4 weekly trance events.

I also think both Defected & All Gone have been really strong this year with some great lineups.

I suggested the Solomun own residency at Pacha next year a while back (remember he did have a mini Defected Pacha residency there this year too).

However - I think a full season residency could only fit into the Pacha schedule if the Vagabudos crew up-sticks and leave Pacha. Personally I preferred Solomun's sets at Pacha last season for Defected than I did his Sankeys nights (though both brilliant).

Not quite sure what your definition of success is. Pacha had 6 out of 7 packed out night last year, which was probably the most successful year they had. I appreciate some of their nights are "tired", but the numbers are still there.

I disagree that Vagabundos are loosing their gas. I think they are trying to be less dependent on Luciano, and the best nights sets I had there last year were Reboot, Carl Craig, Digitaline, and other young talent that they are pushing through. When people leave their inverted snobbery towards Pacha aside, some of those nights last year were more "underground" than the "underground" (whatever that actually means these days anyway). In terms of Luciano, personally bored of him at Pacha, but love his happy pre-midnight Ushuaia sets. OK they can be quite similar, but he owns that arena. Will they leave Pacha? I'm not so sure. Personally I still think its a brilliant night overall, and after years of We Love I still after 3 seasons find going to Pacha on a Sunday a refreshing alternative...

Agree that Guetta, Tiesto and Morillo are starting to seem "old school" - but those nights still pack the place out for Pacha.

Both All Gone & Defected (as I always bang on about) are on GOOD nights brilliant. They both have more underground and more commercial nights. Defected is still the most pure house night on the island and fits Pacha's history and present like a glove! Tong's night is hit or miss - but when its a hit its brilliant. Trentemoller, Laurent Garnier, Reboot, Seth, Jamie - brilliant nights, and Tong brings in a younger Brit crowd that is absent on other nights at Pacha. I appreciate that he has some Calvin & SHM nights - but he's the pied piper of dance - and while I never go to those nights, I respect how he caters for all tastes. The 16yr olds at a Calvin night will be at Cico / Enter. in a few years! The World of dance still needs a conveyer belt of young bodies!

Exactly! And is Tiesto actually doing Trance these days? Never went to a Monday at Pacha, but assume he's doing more SHM sound these days?

Yeah, that's absolutely what I mean about the misunderstanding going on in the OP.

Trance is nowhere near dead and, if anything, is actually having a real revival at the moment.

Whereas Tiesto had been changing his sound over a number of years and, as of about 2 years ago, completely left trance behind. Admittedly, there has been some house/trance crossover of late, but Tiesto's not mixing in trance circles and is firmly in the camp with the Afrojacks, R3habs and Hardwells now. His move to Pacha really rubber stamped that. Tiesto may be 'old' but he's only really old if you're actually into trance like me.

I'm really not sure Pacha is a venue that suits trance to be quite honest. At a push it would have to be very progressive. In that sense I think the people who run Pacha are pretty smart. They know what kinds of music suit the venue and they try to find a balance between the commercial side and house music for more discerning listeners.

I've altered this a bit :lol:

As I think the jury will be out on Pacha next season more than ever.

I'm interested to see the off-season DJ/party/promoter merry-go-round. Arguably last year was the biggest in a while! Will we see the landscape change as much as that, or more? Will Pacha's new people try not to rock the boat too much, or will they look to instantly put their own mark on proceedings?

Time will tell!

It absolutely isn't true, you're right. I see more and more people joining the trance ranks, as well as more and more people rejoining after being away for a while.

To see Tiesto's jump to house as fleeing a sinking ship is a complete misunderstanding. And house music is welcome to Tiesto by the way.

I have a quick query to your blog, Bez. In it you mention that Pacha already has a big buck DJ on their books in Guetta. But aren't Guetta & his missus technically promoters for their own night. Presumably they take a large cut, if not all, of the door tax on that night as opposed to actually being on Pacha's payroll??

I know it's essentially swings and roundabouts, as either way Pacha would be paying him in some form or fashion.

Or does Guetta get an extra cut ON TOP OF his ticket earnings to keep his residency at Pacha?

From my understanding hes on a retainer fee. A sizeable one at that.
 
If it boiled down to Guetta OR Tiesto, from a commercial point of view, it's a no brainer. Guetta everyday of the week.

Never really felt Tiesto was the right fit for Pacha, even with his new sound. If true, I suspect Ushuaia will make a much more apt home.
