Only in Berlin...

I saw this last week and meant to email you about it. it does look pretty good. Apparently they open late as the building inspector was still walking round!!

It finally opened about 1am

here is a review from another forum

There should be t-shirts with this written on it. Why? Read the story...:

As most of you are aware, legendary Berlin techno club Tresor re-opened last Thursday a good two years after the closing. A legend and the main force in the Detroit-Berlin axis is back in the city, with a new location, a big old generating plant ruin, and it's back for good!

Thursday, 10:30pm: I arrive at the new location. The opening is scheduled for 11pm, but there's already a big crowd gathered around the entry. And there will be more, since the opening gets delayed until way past midnight (later it turned out it turned so long to get the final approval from the building inspection!)

By that time there's huge crowd gathered already, blocking the nearby street and causing the police to get it free again (much to the amusement of the wating clubbers of course). It gets increasingly difficult to breathe inside the human cluster, and at some point it wasn't possible to topple down even if you tried.

After repeated clamour from the clubbers to open the gates the securities finally let the people enter the area, but the happiness wouldn't last long, since the next cluster already gathered in front of the building entry. Letting only a few people in at the time, without an orderd chain, the securities caused an incredible scrumble in front of the club, as anyone tried to push himself closer to the door. It was possible to tuck up one's legs without falling over, and getting pushed further by the crowd you could move without touching the ground.

Sounds kinda horrible but actually it was fun, since there were a lot of funny people in the crowd to talk to until they got in after two hours. ("Why is it taking so long?" - "Maybe some Islamists have abducted Sven Väth and Dimitri is still negotiating with the terrorists...")

So was it worth it? Okay, the line-up wasn't really promising the first day, with Sven Väth playing seven hours in the main stage "Batterieraum". The room has great light (green laser, yeah!) and a wooden floor, but the sound system is not so good yet. But the cellar is as dark, dirty, loud, foggy and dirty as it used to be, and the location is fantastic! From the upstairs balcony you can get an overview over the immense industry ruin - just incredible. The old Detroit-Berlin axis was refreshed the next day with Alan Oldham and Blake Baxter (Alan is as a DJ one of the best performers I've ever seen! Such a great guy!) and there's finally some faster techno returning to Berlin (The Recyver Dogs live-act on the opening day was fantastic.

So when you visit Berlin and like it techno-techno you should check it out!

sigh. I can't get my arse to berlin until 2008
